【情景再現】

畢竟是知名公司，規章制度很嚴格，對員工的要求也很高。Catherine雖然很用功，但還是難免有不盡人意而受屈捱罵之時，這天，她因爲工作上的小差錯遭到一個同事的當場奚落，心裏非常難過，甚至萌發了辭職的念頭。好朋友Jane勸她說：You have to Roll with the punches if you want to survive in this business.凱瑟琳聽後心想：”在打孔機上滾動？與打孔機打交道？莫非這是一門業內技術？“她把想法說出來後，弄得Jane哭笑不得。

Catherine: I have to roll with the punches? But I haven't seen any punches in our company, what can I do?
凱瑟琳：圍着打孔機轉悠？我沒看到有什麼打孔機啊，我又能做什麼呢？

Tom: It's a metaphor, my dear! "Roll with the punches" means "to be able to deal with a series of difficult situations".
珍妮：親愛的，這是個比喻好不好！roll with the punches這個俚語說的是能處理一系列困難局面。
