閱讀下列短文,從每題所給的四個選項(A、B、C和D)中,選出最佳選項。

The following are a few of my favorite TV shows, each of which have some educational value.

Blue Peter

As a child, this was one of the only programmes I was allowed to watch. It is the longest-running children’s TV show in the world, but seemed to have fallen out of fashion recently. The crafts on the show were always good fun, and you would often learn about different countries around the world—for example, one presenter went to the Amazon rainforest in South America!

The Great British Bake Off

This show is all about making cakes, biscuits, and pies. The aim is to find British’s best amateur(業餘的)baker. You can watch the show to get some ideas of new things to try baking and the recipes are often available online.

Frozen Planet

David Attenborough has produced many wildlife documentaries. I love this show not only because of the cute animals in it, but also because it teaches us about the effect we have on the planet and what need to do to save these regions. David narrates each episode(電視劇的一集); because he speaks clearly and slowly, his show might be of interest to English language learners.

Pointless

This show is a general knowledge quiz show. Each round will feature a different category(e.g. Sport, music, films) and a topic will be given, for example “Teams which have won the World Cup”. Before the show, 100 people will have been asked the same question. Then they have to think of an answer and the aim is to find an answer which none of the 100 people asked before the show thought of. I’ve learnt a lot from this show!

21. If you are a food lover, you may be interested in _______.

A. Blue Peter B. The Great British Bake Off

C. Frozen Planet D. Pointless

22. Which of the TV shows may attract English language learners?

A. Blue Peter B. The Great British Bake Off

C. Frozen Planet D. Pointless

23. What’s the passage mainly about?

A. Some popular TV shows in English

B. Some educational TV shows

C. How to choose the TV shows for kids

D. The differences between some TV Shows

B

What would you do if you had a large sum of money? Give away almost all of it to charity? Well, that’s what Mark Zuckerberg, CEO and founder of Facebook, just said he would do. Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan promised to give 99 percent of their money to society. Right now that is about $45 billion(289 billion yuan), and they plan to give away the money to things like science and education.

Many wealthy people have done similar things, for example, Bill Gates. But giving back and helping others isn’t just for big billionaires. People like Zuckerberg and Gates may have more to give, but people with less are doing it too. Especially around the holidays, people want to do their part and give back to people who are less lucky than them. Schools may have food collections where people bring some food and together they can give away some other things to places like homeless centers.

People also host special events like concerts or runs to be creative while raising money. Common people give away whatever they can to US charities like the United Way and the American Red Cross.

Then these charities are able to help poor in different ways like education, health and improving their lives. These things come together to make a big difference.

24. Which of the following about Mark Zuckerberg is charities.

A. He promised to give away all of his money to charities.

B. He cars about science and health

C. He is a billionaire who wouldn’t like to help chrities

D. He is the CEO and founder of Facebook.

25. What does the underlined part in paragraph 2 mean?

A. Less rich people are doing it now.

B. Rich people are giving less than before

C. Common people are donating to people in need

D. Common people are giving less than billionaires

26. What do paragraph 3 and 4 talk about?

A. How common people help others B. Why people like to help others.

C. What schools do during the holidays D. What charities there are in the US

27. What can we learn from the story?

A. It’s rich people’s duty to give more money.

B. Everyone can do their part to help others.

C. The poor should work hard to make a living

D. There are more charities in the US than in China

C

Christmas in Australia is often very hot. While the northern hemisphere(半球)is in the middle of winter, Australians are baking in summer heat. It is not unusual to have Christmas Day well into the mid 30℃.

A traditional meal includes a turkey dinner, with ham and pork. A flaming Christmas plum pudding is added for dessert(甜點). In the Australian gold rushes, Christmas puddings often contained a gold nugget(金塊). Today a small favor is baked inside. Whoever finds this knows she/he will enjoy good luck. Another treat is Mince Pies.

Some Australians and particularly tourists often have their Christmas dinner at midday on a local beach. Other families enjoy their day by having a picnic as well as some outdoor activities.

The warm weather allows Australians to enjoy a tradition which started in 1937. Carols by candlelight is held every year on Christmas Eve, where tens of thousands of people gather in the city of Melbourne to sing their favorite Christmas songs. The evening is lit by as many candles singing under a clean cut night sky. The sky with its Southern Cross stars is like a mirror. Sydney and the other capital cities also enjoy carols in the weeks leading up to Christmas.

Australians surround themselves with Christmas Bush, a native plant which has little red flowered leaves.

Nowadays more and more traditional businessmen feel worried that growing e-commerce(電子商務) will decrease their share of the market.

According to a survey, 90% of some people’s purchases are made on the computer. As they find that by being able to go shopping online and choose the things that they need, and have them delivered right to their doorsteps, they could no longer be bothered with driving, the crowds, the noise of that, and they usually get a better selection. But sometimes they are cheated only to get the things they hate.

Cornell University Marketing Professor Edward McLaughlin says traditional stores can keep their customers by offering goods like clothing, which customers may want to see and try on before purchasing, as well as items that are difficult to transport. He says some traditional stores are also pleasing customers with services such as setting up or repairing computers and other electronic equipment.

Traditional stores also offer social experiences that some shoppers enjoy. There is still a lot of emotion in the buying decision that takes place. Oftentimes, you need that last sense of “this is exactly what I want” before you part with money. And you can’t always get that online. It’s a rather cold process.

As more and more people have Internet access and smart phones, online commerce is likely to continue its growth here in the United States and in other countries.

32. Traditional businessmen feel upset because_______.

A. people like to have their good taken good care of

B. consumers can always get a better selection by shopping online

C. more and more young people purchases things on the computer

D. growing online sales will seize their share of the market.

33. According to McLaughlin, some traditional stores are keeping customers by _______.

A. delivering goods to each doorsteps

B. making their goods better and cheaper

C. providing customers with extra services

D. giving customers electric toys as presents

34. From the fourth paragraph, we know that _______.

C. some shoppers like the social environment in traditional stores.

D. making buying decisions in traditional shops is difficult

tful B. Optimistic C. Worried D. Concerned

Ways to make a great first impression

You’ve heard it a million times already, but it really does take but a few seconds to make that all-important first impression (印象). Here are some easy ways for you to impress your classmates or teachers.

● 36

Before you shake hands with somebody, make sure that your hands are clean. The handshake should not be too strong or weak. Most people use their right hands, unless they have a reason to use the left. 37

● Be on time

When meeting someone for the first time, arriving on time is as important as breathing. You may have an excuse, but that will leave the person who hardly knows you with a bad impression. 38 It’s better to be hanging around the place than be stuck in traffic.

● Introduce yourself and ask for names

Make sure you properly introduce yourself. Ask for their name in a polite way. 39 This will increase the chances of their remembering your name in the future. Always remember to stand up when greeting someone and be sure to introduce them to anyone you’re with.

● Make good conversation

To get the most out of your discussion, try to find something common between the two of you. 40 A person will feel more comfortable with someone they can reLate to (產生共鳴).

B. Use body language
