英語是否可以說a parent

■英語完全可以說 a parent。

　　■parent 的意思是“父親”或“母親”，指父母兩人當中的一個，所以若說 a parent，指的就是“父親”或“母親”，儘管我們在漢語翻譯時表父母表示。如：

A grandparent’s job is easier than a parent’s. 祖父母的任務比父母的任務輕鬆一些。 ——摘自《牛津英語用法指南》第二版

　　■若同時指父親和母親，即指父母雙親，要用複數形式parents。如：

My parents both work in education. 我父母都從事教育工作。

Children depend on their parents for food and clothing. 兒童的衣食靠父母。

The tired children trailed along behind their parents. 孩子們累了，沒精打采地跟在父母后面。
