後來格列·弗雷跟隨當時的女友Joan Silwin搬到了洛杉磯，並在洛杉磯結識John David Souther。不久後格列·弗雷就跟John David Souther共同租房住在東洛杉磯，跟他們住在一起的還有一位詞曲作者Jackson Browne，這三人迅速“打入”洛杉磯當地的搖滾夜總會。不過格列·弗雷跟David Souther組成的二人演唱組“Longbranch Pennywhistle”並不成功，這個短命組合在1969年發行了一張專輯後迅速解散。[3]
