There was a sturdy ram with a pair of thick horns upright on its head.
一頭長得非常雄壯的公羊的頭上，挺立着一對粗大的犄角。
It strutted about proudly and saw a fence built with bamboo and wood in front, which blocked its way.

It cast a sidelong glance at the fence, lowered its neck and lunged at the fence, hoping to knock it down.

晏子是春秋時期齊國有名的相國。
One day, Yan Zi went out in a carriage driven by his coachman.
一天，晏子坐着馬車外出。一位車伕爲他趕車。
The coachman's wife had never seen Yan Zi before and wished to have a look at him.
車伕的妻子從來沒見過晏子，很想看看。
She peeped from behind the door. "Ah,here comes Yan Zi!"
她就從門縫中偷偷地觀看:“呵，晏子出來了!”
She got the impression that though he was the prime minister of the State of Qi, he talkedand behaved with great modesty.
她得到的印象是:晏子身爲齊國相國，但是言談舉止顯得非常謙虛。
But her own husband?
可是，自己的丈夫呢?
Haughty and arrogant, he sat under the big canopy driving the carriage for Yan Zi, yetconsidering himself unexcelled in the world.
他坐在車上的大傘下爲晏子駕馭馬車，卻趾高氣揚，不可一世。
She was much ashamed of her husband.
妻子看了十分羞愧。
As soon as the coachman returned home, his wife asked for a divorce.
車伕一進家門，妻子就提出要和他離婚。
The coachman was baffled, unable to make head or tail of this, and asked angrily:
車伕一時莫名其妙，摸不着頭腦，便生氣地問:
"A divorce? What is your reason?"
“要離婚?你的理由是什麼?”
The wife answered:

"Yan Zi is}less than 6 chi (Chinese unit of length, 1/3 metre) tall, but his heart is filled withaspirations and his mind with knowledge.
“晏子雖然身高沒有六尺，但是他胸懷大志，滿腹經綸。
Though he is the prime minister, he is courteous and treats people prudently when he goesout.
他身爲相國，外出時，對人彬彬有禮，謙虛謹慎。

身高足有八尺，可是你忘了，你不過是個車伕。
By the side of the prime minister, you dare to look so cocky,consider yourself always in theright, and brandish the whip to urge the horse on in utter complacency.
卻在相國身旁神氣十足，自以爲是，揮鞭催馬，得意忘形。
You are so immodest that I can't live with you any longer."
你這樣不知謙遜，我不能再和你生活下去了。”
Upon hearing his wife's words, the coachman felt much ashamed.
車伕聽了妻子的話，覺得很慚愧。
Thereafter he became very careful and prudent in doing things and treated people modestly.
從此，他做事小合謹慎，待人謙遜。
Yan Zi noticed the big change in the coachman's behavior and couldn't understand why. So heasked the coachman.
晏子看到車伕變化很大，不知爲什麼，就詢問車伕。
The coachman told Yan Zi his wife's criticism in detail.
車伕把妻子對自己的批評一五一十地告訴了晏子。
At this, Yan Zi was deeply moved. Later Yan Zi recommended him to be a da fu (a seniorofficial).
晏子聽了，感嘆不已。後來，晏子推薦這位車伕出任大夫。

The petty official answered: "He is from the State of Qi."
小官回話: “他是齊國人。”
The King of Chu turned to Yan Zi and said: "So the people of the State of Qi are used tocommittingrobbery."
楚王回頭對晏子說: “原來齊國人是慣於當強盜的。”
Yan Zi stood up and replied:
晏子站起來答道:
"Your Majesty, I heard that when orange trees grown in thesouth of the Huai River aretransplanted to the north of Huai River,they become trifoliate orange trees.
“大王，我聽說生長在淮南的橘樹，移植到淮北就會變成積樹。
Outwardly the leaves of orangetrees and those of trifoliate orange trees look alike, but thetastesof their fruits are entirely different.
從外表上看，橘樹和積樹的葉子是一樣的，但是這兩種樹的果子的味道卻完全不同。
Our people of the State of Qinever commit robbery, but once they come to the State ofChu,they start to engage in criminal activities.
我們齊國的老百姓從來不做強盜，一到楚國就幹起犯罪的勾當來了。
I think, maybe this isthe effect of the environment and climate here."
我看，這也許是受這裏的水土環境的影響吧!”
As the King of Chu heard this, he was struck dumb withshame.
