口語課堂第162期:我現在有點兒忙

Please call the office and tell them I won't be at work today because I'm feeling out of sorts.

Out of sorts在這句話中意思是身體不適。
Sort基本意思是“種類”。人們打紙牌會看一看花色和點數的sorts種類齊不齊全，如果少了的話，那麼這副牌就是out of sorts 種類不齊，那麼就不宜使用了。當一個人身體不舒服，那麼也就不適合工作。因此out of sorts有身體不適的意思。
She' s been out of sorts since the birth of her baby.
她生了孩子以後身體一直不好.
I'm feeling out of sorts belly hurts.
今天我覺得不舒服，肚子疼。

身體不舒服的時候也會影響到心情。Out of sorts還有一個意思是：心情不佳，不高興。
She was tired and out of sorts by the time she arrived home.
她回到家裡，又累又煩。
by the time 等到，到…的時候。
She was tired and out of sorts by the time she arrived home.

What is the matter with you tonight? You are quite out of sorts.
你今晚怎麼啦?幹嗎這樣沒精打彩的。
Tom was out of sorts because he didn't get a bicycle for his birthday.

說完out of sorts，我們來學習一個地道的口語表達：sorta。這在美劇中經常聽到。Sorta就是sort of的縮略語，意思就是“有點兒，有幾分”。
I am sorta nervous about asking such a question.
問這樣一個問題我有點兒緊張。
Look！That girl sorta looks like you.
看！那個女孩看起來有幾分像你。
有時候sorta放在句子中並沒有什麼含義，只是想說得委婉一些。
比如有人請女孩兒約會，而女孩兒想拒絕，她說：
Sorry I sorta have plans, what about Saturday night？
很抱歉，我已經有其他安排了，週五晚上（再約你）如何？
加了個sorta，這樣的話拒絕起來就沒有那麼生硬了。
還有一個類似的縮略語kinda 是kind of的縮略語，同樣表示：有點兒，有幾分。
Once you get to know her, she’s kinda cool.
一旦你瞭解她的話,就會覺得她挺酷的.
You kinda look familiar. Do I know you?
你看上去很眼熟，我認識你麼？
Look, uh, can we talk later? I'm kinda busy.
呃……我們以後再談好嗎？我現在有點兒忙。
