1. 直接表達法
A. 用基數詞 + o'clock來表示整點，注意o'clock須用單數，可以省略。如：

B. 用基數詞按鐘點 + 分鐘的順序直接寫出時間,表示非整點， 後不可加o'clock。如： eleven-o-five 十一點過五分， six forty六點四十
2. 間接表達法
A. 如果分鐘數少於30分鐘，可用分鐘 + past + 鐘點表示，其中past是介詞，意思是“過”。如：
twenty past four 四點二十 eight past one 一點八分
B. 如果分鐘數多於30分鐘，可用(60分鐘-原分鐘數)+ to +(原鐘點數+ 1)表示，其中to是介詞，意思是“差”。如：
8:35 可表示爲twenty-five to nine 差二十五分鐘九點，即八點三十五(其中的分鐘數twenty-five 是由60分鐘減去35分鐘得 到的;鐘點數nine是由8加上1得到的)。
注：A. 當分鐘數是15分鐘時，可用名詞quarter (一刻鐘)表示。如：
7:15可表示爲 a quarter past seven， 12:15可表示爲 a quarter past twelve
B. 當分鐘數是30分鐘時，可用名詞half (一半)表示。如：
9:30 可表示爲 half past nine，3:30可表示爲 half past three。
C. 若想表明是上午，可在時間後加上am或a.m.。如：thirteen past six a.m. (上午六點十三分)等。若想表明是下午，可 在時間後加上pm或p.m.。如：four o'clock p.m. (下午四點)等。
D. 若表示的時間不夠準確，可在時間前加上介詞about。如：about eight (大約八點)等。 E. 在時間前面應用介詞at 來表示在的意思。如：at nine 在九點鐘，at about five thirty-five p.m. 大約在下午五點三 十五分等。
年月日表示法
1. 世紀可以用定冠詞加序數詞加世紀century表示，也可以用定冠詞加百位進數加's表示

這裏，用百位數整數表示的世紀比這一百位阿拉伯數字本身多一個世紀。

但是，通常採用in加表示年份的阿拉伯數字。
B. 月份，在哪個月用介詞in加第一個字母大寫的月份詞表示。例如：in May在五月; in July在七月。爲了簡便起見，
月份與日期連用時，月份常用縮寫形式表示。縮寫形式除May，June，July外，其它的月份都由其前三個字母表示，但September除外。
