Jazz： 爵士，包括有cool jazz, bebop, acid jazz, swing, fushion等。 Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, Chet Baker。Acid jazz(酸爵士，把R&B的元素融入jazz裏)。
Blues： 藍調，19世紀發源於Mississippi的Delta地區。除了Delta地區的藍調外，還有Chicago地區的藍調。Joe Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Blind Willie Mctell, 。
Folk: 民謠。Boy Dylan。
Pop： 流行音樂。Britpop是英倫流行音樂，the Beatles, Placebo, Oasis。
Country：鄉村音樂，John Denver, Garth Brooks。
Classic Rock：主流搖滾。the Rolling Stones，Eagles，Rod Steward，the Beatles。包括有pomp rock/glam rock(華麗搖滾 David Bowie, Queens)。acid rock / psychedelic(迷幻搖滾 Pink Floyd)。
Rock： folk rock(民謠搖滾Simon&Garfunkel)，progressive rock(前衛搖滾 類似於acid rock, Genesis)，jazz-rock fusion(爵士搖滾Chicago)，pop rock(流行搖滾 matchbox twenty)，punk rock(朋克搖滾 Red Hot Chili Peppers)，blues rock(藍調搖滾the Who)
Alternative Rock： 另類搖滾，包括punk(朋克 Green Day, Offspring, Sex Pistols)，hardcore(硬核 The Clash, Sonic Youth)，Goth(哥特搖滾 the Cure, Bauhaus)，industrial(工業搖滾 Nine Inch Nails)， grunge(油漬搖滾 Nirvana, Pearl Jam)，new wave(新浪潮 Inxs, Tears for Fears)，post-punk(後朋克 Joy Division, R.E.M., UB40)，Brit Rock(英倫搖滾 Oasis, Blur)。
Heavy Metal： 重金屬，Guns&Roses，Led Zeppelin，Metallica，Def Leopard，Van Helen
Hard Rock： 硬搖滾，Bon Jovi，Aerosmith。
R&B： 節奏藍調，是rhythm and blues的縮寫。屬於美國黑人的音樂範疇。Stevie Wonder，Michael Jackson。
Funk： 瘋克，可以算作R&B的一種，Prince。
Hip-hop 嬉蹦
Rap： 饒舌樂，MC Hammer(MC就是饒舌者的意思)，，Eminem，Beastie Boys。
Dance & DJ： 跳舞音樂。Disco(the Bee Gees，ABBA)， House(浩室，由Disco演化而來，M-People，BT)，Techno(比House節拍快，發源於Detroit，Moby)，Gabber(techno的極端形式，節拍爲400-500bpm)，Trance(迷幻舞曲Paul van Dyk)， Bigbeat(大節拍 Fatboy Slim, the Chemical Brothers, Prodigy)，Drum N’ Bass(其前身是jungle，是breakbeat的靈魂，Guy Called Gerald)，Trip-hop(氛圍嬉蹦，最早被稱爲Brit-hop, Massive Attack)
Raggae： 雷鬼，Bob Marley。
Fushion： 指不同種類的音樂曲風的融和。
