This expression sounds as if we are flying in the sky. Up In The Air

這個表達聽起來像我們在天上飛。Up In The Air

But does this actuAlly mean we are floating above the ground?

但是這真的意味着我們飄浮在地面之上嗎？

So, your cousin is graduating from high school this year. Has she decided on a college?

所以你的表妹今年要從高中畢業了。她決定去哪所大學了麼？

She hasn't decided on anything yet. All her college plans are up in the air.

她還沒做好決定。她的所有大學計劃還沒確定下來。

She doesn't even know what she wants to study!

她甚至都不知道想學什麼專業呢！

She had better get on it!

她應該快點開始了！

If something is up in the air, it is undecided and uncertain.

如果某事飄浮在天空，就意味着未決定或者是不確定。

If an object is floating through the air,

如果某物飄浮在天空之上，

it is hard to know where it is going, which is where this expression comes from.

很難知道它要飄向何處，這就是這個表達的由來。

In the past, people just said in the air.

在過去，人們只用in the air這種表達。

But in the mid-1900s, we added "up", making it up in the air.

但到了20世紀中期，人們加上了“up”這個詞，從而變爲了Up In The Air。
