根據全國大學英語六級考試大綱可知，大學英語六級考試寫作部分測試學生用英語進行書面表達的能力。寫作測試選用考生所熟悉的題材，要求考生根據所提供的信息及提示(如：提綱、情景、圖片或圖表等)寫出一篇短文，六級150-200詞。英語六級寫作部分佔整套試卷的15% =106.5分，在這部分你要達到63.9分爲及格，答題時間爲30分鐘。

六級的作文評分均採用總體印象評分方式。作文滿分爲15分，分爲五個檔次:14分檔(13- 15分).11分檔(10- 12分)、8分檔(7-9分)、5分檔(4-6分)和2分檔(1-3分)。四級和六級採用相同的檔次描述。每次閱卷時,參照檔次描述分別確定當次考試四級和六級各檔次的評分樣卷。閱卷員經過培訓後參照評分樣卷對考生的作文答卷進行評分。
