澳洲一百歲科學家前往瑞士尋求安樂死

A 104-year-old Australian scientist is on his way to Switzerland to end his life through assisted dying, a right-to-die activist says.

主張死亡權利的積極分子稱，澳大利亞一名104歲的科學家正前往瑞士，通過安樂死結束其生命。

Supporters of the renowned academic David Goodall had expressed fears that Australian officials would prevent him from traveling to Europe.

著名學者大衛·古道爾的支持者表示，擔心澳大利亞官員會阻止古道爾前往歐洲。

Goodall an honorary research associate at Edith Cowan University in Perth, is not terminally ill, but is seeking what he calls "voluntary euthanasia" on the grounds his quality of life has deteriorated.

古道爾是珀斯埃迪斯科文大學的名譽副研究員，雖然未患不治之症，但因其生活質量每況愈下，所以正在尋求他口中的“自願安樂死”。

Swiss law permits assisted suicide, including for foreign nationals, however the practice is illegal in Australia.

瑞士法律允許公民包括外國公民安樂死，然而在澳大利亞這種行爲是違法的。

Campaigner Philip Nitschke says Goodall started making his way to Switzerland last Wednesday with a flight from Perth to Singapore.

活動推動者菲利普·尼什克表示，上週三，古道爾通過一架從珀斯飛往新加坡的航班，開啓了自己前往瑞士的旅途。

"I might as well not have it (my health) getting worse and worse, making me unhappy as it goes," Goodall said.

古道爾說：“我還是不要讓我的健康狀況越來越差的好，這會讓我難過。”
