My friend says I was not a good son

you understand

I say yes I understand

he says I did not go

to see my parents very often you know

作者及朗讀者介紹

W·S·默溫（in，1927—），美國著名詩人，“新超現實主義”詩歌流派的代表人物。他曾憑藉《移動的靶子(The Moving Target)》和《扛梯子的人（The Carrier of Ladders）》分別獲得業內最高獎項“全美圖書獎（National Book Award for Poetry）”和“普利策獎（Pulitzer Prize for Poetry）”。他於1971年和2009年兩度獲得“普利策獎”。2010年起，默溫被美國國會圖書館（Library of Congress）任命爲第17任“美國桂冠詩人（United States Poet Laureate）”。

他的詩作貌似鬆散、甚至神祕，他善於用閃忽的、蜻蜓點水的語言將自然和日常經驗上升到一個更高的、撲朔迷離的境界中去。
默溫自1976年起定居夏威夷，專心研究禪宗，種了700餘棵珍稀的棕櫚樹。他一般每年出門兩三次，參加些朗讀活動，平時只是坐在家裏看太平洋。“我沒有電子郵件，我也不想要這東西。而且我不喜歡跟別人講話，我想過那種非常安靜的生活。”他說。
