【背景解讀】

一對夫妻，遠離塵世,在美國西海岸的深山中養育、教育六個子女。妻子因爲疾病返回現代社會治療,父親依然日復一日,率領孩子們在叢林深處狩獵、格鬥、攀巖、解剖。言傳身教生存技能。夜晚,他們在篝火旁聆聽古典樂,學習樂器，聽父親講解歷史、哲學、醫學、社會法律,開放式熱烈討論所思所得。精神世界之豐富,領先於“外面的世界”許多倍。母親因病去世的消息傳來,孩子們決心走出深山,到城市去參加“塵世葬禮”。他們發誓奪回母親的遺體,按照她的遺願火葬，而不是遵照世俗的安排棺槨入土。
