Ok then. well after a bit of thought. I've decided to talk to you about bamboo. However, I honestly don't know if I'm gonna be able to talk for two minutes about it, but I'll give it a try!

So first of all, as for how I know about bamboo, well I can't really remember exactly how I first got to know about it, you know, it could have been in a biology class at school, or when I was out somewhere with my parents, but my guess would be that I probably first knew about it at primary school, because that was about the time when we first started learning about things like that.

Anyway, moving on to why bamboo is important, well I'd say it's pretty important for a number of reasons, the main one of which would be that it can be used to make so many different things, you know, such as chopsticks, chopping boards, flooring, what yeah, and musical instruments, like the bamboo flute for example.

And another thing to mention is that bamboo is also used a lot for carrying stuff. For example, what I've seen people do is rest it on their shoulders, and then hang things on each end, because as well as being strong, it's also very flexible, so it won't break, even with very heavy loads.

Speaking of plants, I know one which is important in my country and that is called mints. I guess it’s not a popular choice maybe when talking about plants. Mint is what people know as (俗知的) a fragrant herb. I came to know this plant as my mother bought a pot of mint from the market and kept it on the balcony inside our kitchen. I liked it at first glance(第一眼) as it is of my favourite colours, bright green. And it contains this delicious light and cool scent, which many people absolutely love. The cooling taste of mint is just the thing after a heavy meal (大餐). However, I was hurt a bit the first time I tried to grab it as it has these leaves that are like saw. Then I became careful afterwards. The reason my mum put it there is because it decorates the room also it can be used for cooking. After a while, we found out that mints are really easy to grow and take care of because they need little water. They grow better in warm weather. Ours has lived for many months so far. And with the bright color, it’s good for eyes as well. What’s more, it can be very useful as I said. Mint is mostly used as flavorings for foods, including candy and gum and for liqueur. Once we made a mint flavoured cake, which was well balanced between (平衡很好) freshness and sweetness. The essential oils of mints are used as scents in perfume. Some species of mint are also used in herbal medicine.

Paddy fields are certainly the most important plant in China. Paddy fields are an important part of agriculture in China. The southern Chinese mainly live on rice and northerners mainly live on wheat. The paddy fields look like carpets of fresh green. It is not difficult to grow, especially in warmer climates. It does take a while before the rice seeds actually begin producing. It needs much more moisture than most other crops, full sunlight, warm temperatures and fertile soil. It is ready to harvest when the grain heads and stalks just start to turn yellow. As when harvesting wheat, one can test the rice grains by pinching them between your fingers. They grow well in flooded beds or containers but will do just fine in well-watered soil. It requires at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day.

A Chinese scientist Yuan Longping invented the hybrid rice which saved thousands of millions Chinese from starvation. It could produce 20% more rice each unit that common rice. And this progress has made china the pioneer in rice production.
