1. root around
翻找，翻尋
root的本意是根;根源，作動詞表達翻找，翻尋，這個短語尤指在其他物品中尋找，搜尋。
She rooted through/among the papers on her desk.
她在桌上的文件中翻來翻去地找東西。
2. poke around
搜索;翻找
poke主要指用手指、工具或器具去“戳，刺，捅”，如果你想說“扎心了，老鐵”，就可以來一句You poked my heart!
I was poking around in the drawer, looking for the key, when I found this!
我在抽屜裏翻來翻去找鑰匙，就在這時找到了這個!
3. rummage
翻找，翻尋，亂翻
rummage常和in/through搭配，形容翻箱倒櫃地尋找。
She rummaged in/through all the drawers, looking for a pen.
她把所有抽屜都翻了個遍，想找支筆。
4. turn sth upside down
將…翻了個底朝天
這個短語指你搜遍了整個角落，常常還留下一片狼藉。
I turned the apartment upside down but I couldn't find the letter.
我把公寓翻了個底朝天也還是找不着那些照片。
5. rifle
迅速翻查;匆忙翻找
rifle就是“來福槍;步槍”的意思，當它用作動詞，就表示匆忙翻找某物，經常指偷盜行爲。
The safe had been rifled and the diamonds were gone.

6. trawl
搜尋;網羅
trawl表示搜尋的時候，指的是爲了得到自己想要的而搜尋大量的信息。

haystack是乾草堆的意思，在草堆裏找針(needle)，不就是大海撈針嘛!
