疑問句的句末必須使用問號(Question mark)“?”來標示問句的結束。
疑問句可再分爲一般疑問(General2 question)和特殊疑問(Special question)兩種。
(a)一般疑問：用be或助動詞置於句首，並以“Yes，…”，或“No，…”回答的問句稱爲一般疑問(也稱Yes-no questions)。
①be 或 have(有)置於句首來表達疑問，例：
Am I wrong again? (我又錯了?)
Yes, you are (wrong again). (是的，你又錯了。)
No, you aren’t. (不，你沒錯。)
Is it your bicycle? (這輛自行車是你的嗎?)
Yes, it is. (是的，是我的。)
No, it isn’t. (不，那不是我的。)
Were there many people at her birthday party?
(她的生日宴會來了很多人嗎?)
Yes, there were. (是的，來了很多人。)
No, there weren’t. (沒有，沒有很多人。)
Have you money with you? (你身上帶錢了嗎?)

②助動詞置於句首來表達疑問，例：
Shall3 I call a taxi for you ? (需要我替你叫一輛出租車嗎?)
Yes, please. Thank you. (好的，謝謝你。)
No, thank you.(不必了，謝謝你。)
Will you do that for her? (你願意替她做那件事嗎?)
Yes, I will.(是的，我願意。)
No, I won’t.(不，我不願意。)
Can she drive? (她會開車嗎?)
Yes, she can.(是的，她會。)
No, she can’t.(不，她不會。)
③一般動詞則使用“do”來表達疑問，例：
Do you speak Japanese4? (你會說日語嗎?)
Yes, I do.(是的，我會說。)
No, I don’t.(不，我不會說。)
Does she swim very well?(她游泳遊得好嗎?)
Yes, she does. She is a good swimmer5.

注：依循否定疑問要表達否定答案時，中文的習慣是“是的，……不……(或沒有……)”，但是英語應爲“No， …not.”，不可如中文說成“Yes，…not.”。
(b)特殊疑問(Wh-questions)：使用疑問詞(what，who，which，how，why，when，where，etc.)發問，不能用“Yes，…”或“No，…”回答的問句叫做特殊疑問句(也稱Wh-questions)。例：
What is that in your hand?
(你手裏拿的是什麼?)
It’s a brooch, a present from my elder8 brother.

Who is the young lady sitting beside your mother?

(c)疑問句的音調：
疑問句的基本而正常的音調如下：
①一般疑問： 一般疑問句要用升調，大多數人都知道這一點。但是，大多數學生在用升調時，會從句子的第一個單詞一直向上升，直到最後一個單詞，而此時的音已經高到了極點，聽起來有點嚇人。要注意的是，一般疑問句的升調表現在句子的最後一個單詞上。而且，最重要的是，升音不是從這從這個單詞的第一個音節開始，而是到了單詞的最後一兩個音節時纔會突然地陡升上去。學習者往往會忽視這一點。以至於他們說的英語聽起來極不自然。 例：
Do you have questions? ↗
Have you ever11 been to China before? ↗
Don’t you think it a good idea? ↗
②特殊疑問： 特殊疑問句在通常情況下使用降調，但也不是一味地從頭降到尾，在這裏還要注意：起調時，特殊疑問句的音調較高，遇到助動詞時弱讀，並且將音調降下來，然後逐漸提高，一般在句子的最後一個單詞重重地降下來。例：
What can I do for you?
Who’s the girl over there?
When did it happen?
How much does it cost12?
