Good morning! Today, the title of my speech isImproving Beijing's environment for the Olympics. Have you ever seen animalscry? Do you know what makes them cry? It's the polluted world, a dirty world,caused by our irresponsible behaviors, that makes those lovely animals cry. Manyof us are smart enough to know how terrible it is to have a world withoutanimals and plants. But some people still persist in making the same errors andharming the environment.

What's worse is that people are eating wild animals. Those people don'tknow, and more importantly, they don't want to know. This kind of behavior hascaused some specific problems. For example, medical experts have suggested thateating wild animals helped spread the terrible disease SARS. Now, our world isno longer clean and beautiful. Why? Because air, water, and noise pollution hasbecome more and more serious. Noise pollution makes us talk more loudly andbecome angry more easily. Water pollution makes our rivers and lakes very pollution is the most serious kind of pollution. Both air pollution andwater

pollution are not only dangerous to our health, but also dangerous toanimals and plants. We're destroying our only world. A large number of treeshave been cut down, so a lot of lands have been turned into deserts. Pollutioncan be seen everywhere! Unquestionably it is essential that we clean up ourenvironment. Sadly, we've not always appreciated the importance of protectingthe environment. On the streets, you can see cars producing smog. In thebathrooms, you can see students leaving the water tap on after using them. Notonly the young people, but also the elderly ones throw

things everywhere without thinking it's wrong, even in a beautiful e things are taking place every day, even in modern cities like Beijing. Wecan't do that any more. We must learn how to protect the environment. Ifeveryone is aware of protecting it instead of destroying it, the world canbecome cleaner, more beautiful, and more peaceful. The theme of Beijing 2008Olympic Games is "New Peking, New Olympic". It's the target owned by everyChinese. We should try our best to improve Beijing's environment forOlympics.

, let's begin to act! First, start with the things around you. Don't throwrubbish onto the road. Don't talk loudly when you are outdoors. Turn off thewater tap after using it. Go to school by bike or by bus instead of by privatecar. Save your pocket money and contribute to environmental protectionorganizations. Take me as an example, I take action in order to make our onlyworld full of happiness. I pick up rubbish and throw it into a trashcan. Icollect waste paper or bottles for recycling. I plant more trees and flowers,and so on. If you do all these things just like me, it means you have donesomething useful to improve the environment. We're grateful, because the emblemof the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games is a precious treasure dedicated to theOlympic Movement by the people of China. Under the guidance of the Olympicspirit, let us do a better job in all fields of our preparation and venueconstruction work in an efficient way. We will combine the Olympic Movement withthe latest technology and advanced culture to make the Beijing Games the bestOlympic Games ever! Welcome to Beijing! Thank you.

你可曾見到過動物哭泣?你可曾知道它們爲什麼哭泣?正是因爲我們不負責任的行爲，讓世界變得骯髒，讓這些可愛的動物們哭泣不止。我們清楚的知道，如果沒有了動物和植物，我們的世界將會變得多麼死寂，多麼灰暗但是有些人仍然固執的犯着同樣的錯誤??破壞環境，執迷不悟!

更糟糕的是，人們熱衷於品嚐野生動物。食用野生動物的人不知道，更不會想知道，正是這種行爲導致了很多特殊問題的出現。例如：醫學家已經證實，舉世矚目的SARS疾病，正是由於食用野生動物傳播的。

如今，我們的世界已經不再整潔，不再美麗。爲什麼呢?因爲空氣，水和噪聲等污染已經變得越來越嚴重了。噪聲污染讓我們的脾氣變得極易暴躁;水污染讓河流和湖泊不再清澈，大氣污染讓天空變得不再蔚藍。環境污染，無處不在!

無疑，清潔我們的環境勢在必行。然而可悲的是，許多人不能時刻領悟到保護環境的重要性。在街道上，你可以目睹汽車尾氣四處瀰漫;在洗手間，你可以目睹有人用後卻不及時關閉水龍頭;甚至是在環境優美的公園，有人隨意的丟棄垃圾，但他們從來沒有意識到這種行爲是錯的。

我們必須學會保護我們的環境。如果我們每個人都能伸出雙手，那麼我們的世界將會變得更整潔，更美麗，更和平。2008年奧運會的主題是"新北京，新奧運"，這也正是我們每個人的目標。

爲了讓我們的家園充滿歡笑，我們必須立刻行動!從我做起，從今做起，從身邊小事做起。如果你還在隨意丟棄廢棄物;如果你還在公共設施上隨意刻畫;如果你還在公共場所隨地吐痰，那麼請你趕快改正!我們每個人都應該爲改善環境做出努力，讓我們的家園變得像春天一樣美麗!

what is nature? it's everything that exists in the world independently ofpeople, such as pants and animals, earth and rocks, and the weather.

now more and more people are focusing on the nature. it is no doubt thatthe nature is important to every human being. no nature, no life. because of thesupplies of the nature, we have lived happily for a long time. and we started togain every thing available from the nature. and this lasted so long a y, people have discovered that the nature around is getting worse andworse.

what is threatening the nature? air and water pollution, overharvesting ofplant and animal species, overpopulation and so on. overpopulation is thebiggest source of pollution. let's take overpopulation as an example.

what does overpopulation feel like? when we move slowly through the city ina tazi. when we enter a crowded slum district. when the temperature is high andwhen the air is thick with dust and smoke. the streets are crowded with streets seem alive with people. people eating. people washing. peopletalking. people sleeping. people visiting each other, arguing and le relieving themselves. people pushing their hands through the taxiwindows, begging. people leading animals. people, people, people, people. as wedrive slowly through the crowd, sounding the taxi's horn, the dust, heat, noiseand cooking fires made it like a scene from hell! i admit, frightening.

to the nature, overpopulation is a big problem. more people, morepollution. and the big population is threatening the nature every second.

the rapid rise in world population is not creating problems only for thedeveloping countries. the whole world faces the problem that raw materials arebeing used up at an increasing rate and food production can not keep up with thepopulation increase. people in rich countries make the heaviest demands on theworld's resources, its food, fuel and land, and cause the most pollution. a babyborn in the united states will use in his lifetime 30times more of the world's resources than a baby born in india. unless all thecountries of the world take united action to deal with the population explosionthere will be more and more people fighting for a share of less and less land,food and fuel, and the future will bring poverty, misery and war to us all.

for most of the developing countries, it is a good idea to control thepopulation growth. for example, china has carried out birth control for this plan has a great effect on the world population.

if the population continues to increase, if the air and water continue tobe polluted, if we don't do something to protect wild-plant and wildlife specieswill be declining. species and biological communities have difficulty adaptingto change. economic opportunities and the quality of life of future generationsare also put at risk. by protecting nature, we protect ourselves.

we live in the world every day. we eat food, drink water, wear clothes,watch tv, use computers and so on. we are producing waste every moment.

generally speaking, there are four sorts of waste. they are material waste,organic waste, inorganic waste and poisonous & harmful waste. now, we aregoing to talk about each sort of waste one by one.

material waste: it means the waste of substance or things from whichsomething else can be made. for example, people throw away the used metalproducts and buy a new one, so the old metal waste accumulates. at last, theybecome waste. for example, when people finish reading newspaper, the paper willbecome waste. when the glass is broken, it also becomes waste. nobody wants touse a broken window or drink with a broken glass or wear a pair of brokenglasses. once it is broken, it becomes waste. the rate of using plastics isincreasing day by day. people use plastic bags because they are convenient. whenthey get home, they throw the plastics way, paying no attention to theenvironment. the more convenience plastics brings to us, the more plastic wasteis produced. this is called “white pollution” as most plastics are white. someof our products we use every day are made of rubber, just like the tyres and thebottom part of our shoes. it’s true that rubber plays an important role in ourlife. however, it also brings us some trouble when it has been used for a longtime and becomes old. the old tyres become waste because it can’t break down bynature. this is really a big problem.
