1. ALREADY

已經


Already is used to show that something has happened earlier. It is used in the mid-position of the sentence and is usually used with Present Perfect.

Already被用來表明早些時候發生了什麼事。它用於句子的中間位置,通常與現在完成時連用。


In American English, it is also possible to use already with the Simple Past.

在美式英語中,也可以用一般過去時。

2. STILL

仍然


Still is used to show a continuous action, and is used in affirmative sentences. Still is used in the mid-position of the sentence. And is usually used with Present Continuous (Progressive).

Still用於表示連續動作,並用於肯定句。仍然用在句子的中間位置。通常與現在進行時連用。


Still in a sentence:

Still在一個句子中:


I am still doing my homework. /He is still washing his car.

我還在做作業。/他還在洗車。


Still requires the use of Progressive forms. Except for the verbs be, have and verbs of primary perception*. Or when you want to indicate a habitual situation (HABIT).

Still需要使用進行時。除了be,have和基本感官動詞。或者當你想表明一種習慣性的情況(習慣)。

NOTE: still is rarely used in negative sentences. It is usually replaced by ‘not…anymore’ or ‘no longer’

I no longer< have the book that you gave me./I am not a strong guy anymore.

我不再有你給我的那本書了。/我不再是一個強壯的人了。

3. YET

仍然


words to use instead of said. Yet is used to talk about something that is expected to happen, but did not happen till this moment. Yet means at any time up to now. Yet is used in interrogative (questions) and negative sentences. Yet is usually used with Present Perfect. Yet is used in the end of the sentence.

其他說法:Yet這個詞是用來談論預期會發生的事情,但直到現在才發生。但意思是到現在爲止的任何時候。但用於疑問句和否定句。但通常與現在完成時一起使用。但在句子的結尾使用。

Yet is very rarely used in affirmative sentences, but when it is used, it implies a negative.

For example,

I have yet to read the ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’ book= I have not read the ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’ book yet, but I will probably read it soon.

4. JUST

僅僅


Just is used when we want to say that something happened a short time ago (very recently).

當我們想說不久前(最近)發生了什麼事情時,就使用Just。


It is always used with Present Perfect or Past Perfect. It is used between the auxiliary verb (have/has) and past participle. Just can be used in affirmative and interrogative sentences.

它總是和現在完成或過去完成一起使用。它在輔助動詞(有或有)和過去分詞之間使用。只適用於肯定句和疑問句。


Just in a sentence:

Just在一個句子中:


I’ve just called my grandmother. (Present Perfect)/Have you just called your grandmother? (Present Perfect)/We had just< finished dinner. (Past Perfect)

我剛給我奶奶打過電話。你剛給你奶奶打過電話嗎?我們剛剛吃完飯。(過去完成)


NOTE: In American English just can be used with Simple Past.

注意:在美式英語中,只是可以用簡單的過去。
