remain和stay的辨析
remain與stay區別：
1)remain與stay 作“留下”、“繼續保持某一狀態”時，它們常作系動詞用，可以互換。
e.g.
①The shop stays(remains)open till night.
這家店鋪一直營業到晚上。
②He stayed(remained)outside while we entered the room.
他留在外面，我們進了屋子。
2)當表示“剩下”(即其餘的一切都拿走、除去、破壞等)時，通常只用remain而不用stay。
e.g.
①After the earthquake(地震)very little remained of the city of Tang Shan
一場地震以後，唐山這座城市所剩無幾。
②If you take 5 from 20,15 remains.
從20中去5，剩餘15。
3)當表示“在某處或在某處住下”時，通常用stay,不用 remain。
wants to stay with a friend in the country.
他想住在鄉下朋友那裏。
4)兩者在含義上的區別是remain着重指在別人已離去或事情有變動後，仍“繼續停留”或保持原來狀態、關係、行動等。主語可以是人，也可以是物，而stay的主語通常是人，僅指“停留”、“逗留”。
e.g.
①My father will stay home this week.
這星期我父親將一直留在家裏。
②When the others had gone, he remained and put back the chairs.
別人離去後，他留下來，把椅子放回原處。
