情景對話：
Howard: Doesn't Professor Abbott's family want any of this stuff?
Abbot教授的家人不想要這些東西嗎？
Leonard: I don't think he had a family.
他沒有家人。
Raj: That's rough.
真是慘啊。

1、Rough 粗糙
例句：
The skin on my hands is rough.
我手上的皮膚好粗糙。

2、Rough 大概的，不確切的，不具體的
A rough idea. 大概的想法
A rough number 大概的數字
例句：
It is just a rough idea.
這只是一個大概的想法。

3、Rough 困難的，…很困難/糟糕
例句：
I had a rough day.
我這一天過得好睏難/真糟糕。

當別人說了一件特別糟糕/特別不好的事，我們就可以說：
That's rough.
意思就是：真糟糕呀，好慘啊。可以用它表示同情。
這裏它也相當於：
That's hard. / That's bad.

舉個栗子：
A: She left him, took the kids and the house.
她離開了他，把孩子和房子都帶走了。
B: That's rough. The poor guy has nothing left.
真的是好糟糕啊，這個男的什麼都沒有了。

再看一個栗子：
A: I saw the doctor and she told me I'd need surgery.
我看了醫生，他跟我說需要做手術。
B: Oh, that's rough. But first I think you should get a second opinion.
哦，太糟糕了，我覺得你首先考慮問問別人的意見。
當看到別人身上發生不好的事情時，我們就可以用 that's rough 作爲評價~
