增詞
在段落翻譯時，爲了能充分的表達原文含義，以求達意，翻譯時有必要增加詞語來使英文的表達更加順暢。
例如：虛心使人進步，驕傲使人落後。
譯文爲：Modesty helps one to go forward, whereas conceit makes one lag behind.
其中間加上了增連詞whereas，以使英語的句子表達更加有邏輯性。

減詞
考生要明白，英語的表達傾向簡潔，漢語比較喜歡重複，重複作爲漢語的一種修辭手法，在某種場合下，重複的表達一個意思，是爲了強調，加強語氣。漢語中爲了有更強的節奏感和押韻，也經常會出現排比句。考生在翻譯這些句子時，爲了符合英文表達的邏輯，就要有所刪減或省略。
例如：這是革命的春天，這是人民的春天，這是科學的春天!讓我們張開雙臂，熱烈擁抱這個春天吧!
譯文爲：Let us stretch out our arms to embrace the spring, which is one of the revolution, of the people, and of science.
以上的漢語是比較重複的排比句，漢譯英時考生要遵守英語的邏輯表達，加上定語從句來翻譯，這樣英文句子讀起來也朗朗上口。

詞類轉換
英語語言的一個很重要的特點，就是詞類變形和詞性轉換，尤其是名詞、動詞、形容詞之間的轉換。
例如：她的書給我們的印象很深。
譯文爲：Her book impressed us deeply.
在此翻譯中漢語中的名詞印象轉化成英語中的動詞impress。

語態轉換
語態分爲被動語態和主動語態，漢語中主動語態使用率較高，英語中被動語態的使用率較高。所以考生在翻譯時，要注意語態之間的轉換。
例如：這個小女孩在上學的路上受了傷。
譯文爲：The little girl was hurt on her way to school.

語序變換
爲了適應英文的修辭避免歧義，有時需要對原文的語序進行調整。

分譯與合譯
考生在遇到較長的句子或較複雜的句子時，可以考慮分譯，以使譯文簡潔，通俗易懂。同時考生也可以把漢語的兩個較簡短的句子翻譯成一句英文，可以用連接詞來鏈接。

正反表達翻譯可以分爲兩種情況：1.漢語從正面表達，英語從反面表達。2.漢語從反面表達，譯文從正面表達。
