京劇(Beijing Opera)是中國的國粹。作爲一門古老的藝術，京劇的服裝（costume)、臉譜(facial mask)更易被人喜愛。

不同的服裝 類型反映不同的人物身份特徵。富貴者的服裝綴滿精美的刺繡;窮困 者的服裝則簡單樸素，少有裝飾(elemental)。

臉譜是京劇中塑造人物形象的重要手段，它是用不同的顏色在臉上勾畫出來的。臉譜的顏色讓人一看便知角色(portray)的善惡。

比如白色代表奸詐(treachery)， 黑色代表正直不阿，黃色是驍勇，藍、綠色多用於綠林好漢(rebellious fighters)，金、銀色多用於神佛(divinity and Buddhism)等。

京劇是世界上最古老的戲劇藝術形式之一。從唐代起，京劇的表演者被稱爲“梨園弟子(the artical performer)"。

在清代，它在老百姓中也開始流行。表演是在茶館、飯館，甚至是在臨時搭建的舞臺上進行的。

每個演員的臉上畫着誇張的圖案，代表每個人物的性格、角色和命運。這種技藝可能源於古代的宗教和舞蹈。

熟悉京劇的觀衆可以通過觀察人物的臉部描繪和服裝來了解故事。

Beijing opera is one of the oldest opera art forms in the world. Since the Tang Dynasty, performers of Beijing opera were referred to as "the artical performers".

During the Qing Dynasty, it became fashionable among ordinary people. Performances were watched in tearooms, restaurants, and even on makeshift stages.
