One of the ironies of working life is that the hardest working people usually havetheir headsdown and their eyes on their own page. This is admirable, but ifyou allow yourself to developtunnel vision, you won't notice opportunities when they present themselves.

In one experiment designed by Richard Wiseman, a former magician and psychologist whostudies luck, he asked people to self identify themselves as lucky or unlucky. Then he gave histest subjects a newspaper. "Countthe number of photographs inside," he told them.

On average, the unlucky people took 2 minutes tocount them all. The lucky people? Seconds.

The lucky people noticed the giant message in the unlucky people missed "lucky" people weren't lucky. They were just more observant.

There are two equally qualified candidates with similar skills, work histories, andsalaryrequirements. Who gets the job? The one the hiring manager likes more.

This isn't as unfair as it sounds. When evaluating candidates for a position, managers arelooking first for the person who can do the best job and secondfor the person who'll be theeasiest to work alongside. In today's team-basedwork environment, anything else would befoolish.

Being likeable isn't about being the person with best seats at the stadium. It's about listeningmore than you speak, looking for opportunities to help others instead of solely asking forfavors for your career.

成爲人緣好的人並不是說能在體育場擁有最好的座位,而是少說話、多傾聽,尋找機會去幫助他人,而非一味的向別人索取工作上的幫助。

Thinking about good things might not cause them to appear, but dwelling on the negative willdefinitely close you off from seeing opportunities when they tice redirecting yourthoughts when you catch yourself thinking negatively,and you'll cultivate a head space thatallows you to see the good stuff when it's there. Do this long enough, and it'll be easier tocreate your own opportunities for growth and advancement, and get other higher-ups toendors eyour plans.

如果你去想好的事情,或許不會出現,但是如果你一直沉溺於消極的情緒之中,當機會來臨的時候,這些會矇蔽你的雙眼。當發現消極情緒的時候,學會改變自己的想法,建立起一個安全空間。當好運來臨的時候,你就可以注意到。長時間做這件事情,你會很容易創造出自己成長和進步的機會,並得到上級領導的讚許。
