 雅思口語part2考官範文:a special meal

受邀參加的特殊一餐Describe a special meal you were invited to.

You should say:

When and where you were invited

Who invited you

What you ate

And explain how you felt about the meal.

前考官範文:

Ok then, well I’m actually quite lucky in the fact that I’ve been invited to quite a number of special meals, and the one I’ve decided to talk to you about was a farewell dinner of a good friend of mine, because he was about to go off to Canada for a few years to start university there, so he invited a few of his close friends for a farewell dinner before heading off.

And one of the reasons I’ve chosen to talk about this meal instead of some of the others I’ve been to is simply that it’s still quite fresh in my memory. You know, it was only about a couple of weeks ago when it as for where we had the meal, well I can’t remember the exact name of the place, but it was quite a posh restaurant somewhere in the centre of the city, and judging from how nice it looked when I walked in, it seemed to be a pretty expensive place to dine. So I was kind of relieved that it wouldn’t be me footing the bill! And we also had our own separate room, which was nice, and probably just as well, seeing as we made quite a bit of noise during the meal, what with all the laughing and stuff going on.

Anyway regarding what we ate, well I couldn’t tell you every single dish that we had, because there was just so much, you know, the whole table was literally covered with food. I mean, there was crab, chicken, duck, what else, um,……oh yeah, shrimps, and, uh… and a whole load of different vegetables. So by the end of it, I was absolutely stuffed. You know, we all ate masses, because the food was so good, and it would have been a bit of a pity to see it go to waste!

But anyway, finally then, with regard to how I felt about the meal, well to put it simply, I really enjoyed it. Because as well as the food, which was fantastic, I really enjoyed everyone’s company. You know, it was great being together with so many good friends, many of which I hadn’t seen in quite a while.

So yeah, all in all, it was a really special evening, and I’m extremely grateful to have been invited, and also very grateful to my friend for his generosity, as the bill must have come to quite a lot, I’m sure!

Notes:

Ok then = Ok, (I’m ready to begin). You can also say, “Ok right then” or “Ok then”

I’m actually quite lucky in the fact that I’ve been invited to quite a number of special meals = 我其實很幸運因爲我很多次被邀請參加特殊晚餐 (or something like that!)

it’s still quite fresh in my memory = I can remember it pretty clearly

posh restaurant = 豪華飯店

it was just as well = 幸虧如此

quite a bit of = quite a lot of

foot the bill = pay the bill (買單)

by the end of it = 到最後

I was absolutely stuffed = 我撐死了!

(you can use "absolutely" before extreme adjectives for emphasis, for example: "the show was absolutely amazing"! 演出太精彩了!/ I'm absolutely starving! 我餓死了!but you can't say "I'm absolutely hungry", as "hungry" isn't a strong enough adjective.)

we all ate masses = 我們都吃了好多

So yeah = 所以嗯 (often used at the beginning of the final sentence when you are finishing your talk/answer)

  雅思口語part2考官範文:a useful website

喜歡上的網站Describe a useful website that you like to visit.

Useful phrases:

(Talking about Taobao…)

Ok, well the first website that came to mind when I saw this topic was Taobao dot com, which (I suppose you could say) is the Chinese equivalent of 好的,那麼當我看到這個話題的時候,我第一想到的網站是淘寶網,這個網站應該可以說是相等於(國外的).

There’s a huge range of stuff you can buy on this website.

(“stuff” just means “things”, and is uncountable, so no “s” at the end. It’s used a lot in spoken English)

One of the best things about this website is that the prices are generally a lot cheaper than in the shops.

I mainly go on it to buy things like clothes…

I know that shopping online can be quite risky, because the product often isn’t as good as it looks on the website, but if you do enough research, such as read (through) the customer reviews of the product you’re thinking of buying, then I think you can avoid this kind of thing happening to you, because you’ll be able to get an idea of (你將能夠了解) how reliable the supplier is.

(Talking about )

Ok right then, well (好的,那麼) the website I’d like to talk to you about is Ted dot com, which you might (well) have heard of before, and possibly even been on (你可能聽說過,也可能上過).

And as for what’s on the website, well to put it simply, it’s basically a huge collection of video speeches by various people from all kinds of fields,

So it’s a really great resource (一個極好的資源) for learning stuff

It’s completely free, you know, it doesn’t cost anything to listen to the talks,

And what’s great about it is that (它很好的一點就是) you can choose Chinese or English subtitles(字幕) for most of the talks, and also download them onto your computer.

I also like to read the comments (評論) written by other people who have watched the talk.

I go on it (probably) something like two or three times a week(我大概每週量、三次上這個網站) , so pretty much every other day (所以差不多每隔一天)

I’m normally on it while I’m having my lunch (我一般吃午飯的時候在上個網站) because most of the talks are between about 10 to 20 minutes

As for why I think it’s a good website – well first and foremost , it’s because the (vast) majority of talks are incredibly interesting, at least in my opinion anyway (至少在我看來), so there’s a tremendous amount you can learn from them. (能夠從它們學到很多很多!)

…I think it’s wonderful to have a website like this, which brings all these great talks together in one place

…and another good thing about it is that the talks on the website don’t go on for too long (不延續太久). You know we’ve all listened to speeches which drag on and on(拖延很久), but these ones are (generally) all quite short and to the point(直切主題的).

(Talking about Yahoo)

…what I like about Yahoo is that the news articles are always very short and concise(簡明的), you know, not too wordy (文字略嫌羅唆) like a lot of other news websites.

…and another good thing about the articles on Yahoo is that they are generally written in a pretty colloquial (口語的) style, which makes them easy to read.

(Talking about the BBC World Service Website)

…I would say it’s definitely one of the best English learning resources on the web, because you can listen to the radio live for 24 hours a day…

…and as well as this (除此之外), there are loads of other radio programmes you can also listen to.

(loads of = lots of – and used mainly in spoken English)

(Talking about Renren website人人網)

Ok, well the first website that came to mind when I saw this topic was Renren dot com, which (I suppose you could say) is the Chinese equivalent of Facebook.

…it’s basically the Chinese version (版本) of Facebook.

…it’s a social networking site (社交網站)

…you can upload photos onto the website so that your friends can enjoy looking at them.

  雅思口語part2考官範文:a sports event

參與或觀看的體育賽事Describe a sports event that you took part in or watched.

You should say:

what the event was

where it was

who was competing

what happened during this competition

and explain how you felt about this event.

前考官範文:

Ok, well I have to admit that it was quite a while ago since I took part in any sports event, because I'm not really a very sporty person, but I suppose the one that sticks in my memory the most was a sports meeting between my high school and a few others around the area.

And as for where the event was held, well seeing as I think our school had the only proper running track in the city, it was held there, and the event I was competing in was the fifteen hundred metres, basically because no one else in my class wanted to do it, you know, they said it was too far for them, so I ended up volunteering for it.

So anyway, regarding what happened during the competition, well I seem to remember at the start that most of the other competitors sprinted away, which surprised me a little, because it was quite a long distance that we had to run. So it seemed a little strange and even a bit scary seeing them run so fast - maybe it was because of the adrenaline or something. But anyway, I tried to pace myself, and after a while, the other runners started getting slower, so I was able to overtake them, and then on the last lap, I somehow managed to overtake the leader and win the race!

So if I think back to how I felt at that moment, well as you can imagine, I was over the moon, you know, super happy, because I simply had no idea I would win, and what was really great was the fact that loads of my friends and classmates were standing around the track, cheering me on. So yeah, it was a really awesome feeling.

  雅思口語part2考官範文:a wedding you attended

參加的婚禮Describe a wedding you attended.

You should say:

whose wedding it was

who was there

where it was

and explain how you felt at this wedding.

前考官範文:

Ok, well I've actually been to quite a few weddings, so it was kind of difficult choosing which one to describe, but I guess probably the easiest for me to talk about would be the most recent one I went to, which was that of a neighbour of mine.

And, as for who was there, well, I couldn't tell you everyone, because there were absolutely loads of people, you know, the hall was pretty packed, so my guess would be that there were probably something like 250 to 300 guests. And if I'm not mistaken, it seemed to be that the majority were friends and relatives of the bride and groom, although I also noticed that they had invited quite a few of their colleagues from work as well. For example, one of them, who I think was her boss, went up on stage to make a speech at some point.

Anyway, with regard to where the wedding was held, well, it was actually in a small city called Zhuji, which is about an hour's drive just to the south east of Hangzhou, because that's where the bride comes from. And it was held in a hotel there. I can’t remember the name of it I’m afraid, but it was a really nice hotel, and probably one of the best in the city.

So regarding how I felt at the wedding, well, to put it simply, it was a really wonderful wedding, and there were some parts of it that moved me quite a lot, such as when the bride broke down in tears when she was on stage thanking her parents for all the support they had given her. It was also really clear to see how much the bride and groom loved each other, as they couldn't take their eyes off each other the whole evening. So I was really happy for them and was glad that I made it to their wedding.

That's pretty much it, I think, so thanks a lot for listening.

Notes:

there were absolutely loads of people - 人好多好多!

Packed = very crowded
