鄭人買履
A man of the state of Zheng wanted to buy a pair of shoes.
從前，鄭國有個人想買雙鞋。
He measured his foot and put the measurement on a chair.
他量好了自己腳的尺碼，把它放在了椅子上。
When he set out for the market,he forgot to bring it along.
可當他趕往市集時，卻忘了帶量好的尺碼。
It was after he had found the pair he wanted that this occurred to him.
他要買鞋時，纔想了起來。
"I forgot the measurement", said he.
他說：“我忘帶尺碼了。”
He went home to get it. But when he returned, the market had closed and he did not get his shoes after all.
他回家去取量好的尺碼。等他趕回來時，市集已經關了，他還是沒能買到鞋。
"Why didn't you try on the shoes with your feet?" He was asked.
有人問：“爲什麼不用你自己的腳去試一試鞋子呢?”
"I'd rather trust the measurement than trust myself."
他說：“我寧願相信尺碼也不相信我自己的腳。”

Two soldiers were in camp. The first one‘s name was George, and the second one‘s name was Bill. George said, "have you got a piece of paper and an envelope, Bill?"
Bill said, "Yes, I have," and he gave them to him.
Then George said, "Now I haven‘t got a pen." Bill gave him his, and George wrote his letter. Then he put it in the envelope and said, "have you got a stamp, Bill?" Bill gave him one.
Then Bill got up and went to the door, so George said to him, "Are you going out?"
Bill Said, "Yes, I am," and he opened the door.
George said, "Please put my letter in the box in the office, and..." He stopped.
"What do you want now?" Bill said to him.
George looked at the envelope of his letter and answered, "What‘s your girl-friend‘s address?"
軍營裏有二名士兵，一個叫喬治，一個叫比爾。喬治問：“比爾，你有信紙、信封嗎?”
比爾說：“有。”然後把信紙和信封給了喬治。
喬治又說：“我還沒有筆呢。”比爾又把自己的筆給了他。喬治開始寫信。寫完後把信放進信封裏，又問：“比爾，你有郵票嗎?”比爾給了他一張。
這時比爾站起來，向門口走去。喬治問：“你要出去嗎?”
比爾說：“是的。”隨即打開了門。
喬治說：“請幫我把這封信投進辦公室的信箱裏，還有...”他停住了。
“你還要什麼?”比爾問。
喬治看着信封說：“你女朋友的地址是-?”

"I went out this morning," she began, "and when I came home I found a card saying the mailman tried to deliver a package but no one was home. My husband was in all morning. He never heard a thing!" 我在郵局上班，對於顧客們的各種情緒早已習以爲常了。所以，有一天當一個生氣的顧客氣沖沖地來到我的工作臺時，我還是非常平靜地問她，“有什麼問題嗎?”“我早上上街了，”女顧客說，“我回到家的時候，我看到一個卡片，卡片說郵遞員要給我們家送包裹，但沒人在家。可是我的丈夫整個早上都在家啊。他說他什麼都沒聽到”。在表示了歉意之後，我把包裹給了她。“噢，太好了”，那位女顧客喜形於色。“我們等這東西都等多少年了!”“是什麼好東西?”我問。“我丈夫的新助聽器”。
