綠色和平抨擊戶外品牌假環保

Greenpeace, the international environmental group, is challenging the green credentials of outdoor clothing makers including The North Face, Columbia and Patagonia, accusing them of failing to eliminate toxic chemicals in their products.

國際環保組織綠色和平(Greenpeace)對The North Face、哥倫比亞(Columbia)和巴塔哥尼亞(Patagonia)等戶外服裝生產商的環保資質提出質疑,譴責它們未能清除自家產品中的有毒化學物質。

The attack by Greenpeace came after its scientists this year found traces of perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs) in the waters of high-altitude lakes around the world, including the Lago di Pilato in the Apennine mountain range of central Italy.

綠色和平此次發難之前,該組織的科學家今年在世界各地高海拔湖泊的水體中發現了微量的全氟化合物(PFC),其中包括意大利中部亞平寧山脈的皮拉託湖(Lago di Pilato)。

Greenpeace said its study — released on Tuesday — proved how slowly the environment breaks down these chemicals, which outdoor clothing makers routinely use in their waterproof gear.

綠色和平表示,其週二發佈的研究結果證明,環境分解這些化合物的速度是多麼的慢。戶外服裝生產商經常在防水裝備中使用這些化合物。

”It is ironic to think that companies who depend on nature for their business willingly release dangerous chemicals into the environment,” said Mirjam Kopp, toxics campaigner for Greenpeace. “They need to set short-term deadlines for completely eliminating the entire group of PFCs in production processes,” she added.

綠色和平反有毒物質活動家米麗婭姆科普(Mirjam Kopp)說:“那些依靠大自然發展業務的公司,竟然願意向環境釋放危險化合物,想想這有多諷刺。”她補充稱:“它們需要設定一個不遠的截至日期,在那一天到來前把生產工藝中涉及到的各種PFC徹底清除掉。”

Greenpeace said Puma and Adidas have already adopted “ambitious elimination targets” for PFCs and some companies have “entire collections “of PFC-free waterproof clothing. But it took aim at The North Face, Columbia, Patagonia, Salewa and Mammut for showing “little sense of responsibility when it comes to eliminating hazardous chemicals such as PFCs”.

綠色和平表示,彪馬(Puma)和阿迪達斯(Adidas)已經定下了“雄心勃勃的清除(PFC的)目標”,有些公司推出了“完整系列”的無PFC防水服裝。但該組織把矛頭指向了The North Face、哥倫比亞、巴塔哥尼亞、沙樂華(Salewa)和猛獁象(Mammut),因爲這些公司“在清除PFC等危險化合物方面沒有展現出什麼責任意識”。

Greenpeace criticism could be especially problematic since outdoor apparel companies go to great lengths to appear environmentally friendly. In their catalogues, advertisements and social media channels, they use stunning pictures of pristine landscapes and often include messages of conservation and calls for environmental action.

綠色和平的批評可能會引起軒然大波,因爲戶外服裝公司總是竭盡全力表現得很注重環保。在產品目錄、廣告和社交媒體渠道中,它們會使用極具震撼力的展示原生態景觀的照片,而且內容往往包含環保思想和對採取環保行動的呼籲。
