Two Americans laid a wreath on a comrade's grave and saw, nearby, a Japanese laying rice on the grave of a countryman. One American asked, "When do you expect your comrade to come and eat that rice?"

兩個美國人在一個朋友的墓前獻上鮮花，這時他們看到附近一個日本人在朋友的墓前放了一些米飯。一個美國人問道：“你覺得你的朋友什麼時候能來吃這些米飯呢？”

The Japanese replied, "When your friend comes to smell his flowers."
