be about to do sth的用法

用法一:表示即將做某事。如:He’s about to go. 他就要走了。The package is about to come unwrapped. 那個包快散開了。Mrs. Brown was about to begin, but Jennie spoke first. 布朗夫人正要開始講話,珍妮先講了。He little dreams that the police are about to arrest him. 他一點也沒想到警察就要來抓他。I had an intuition that something awful was about to happen. 我有一種直覺,一件可怕的事將要發生。
  
用法二:其否定式在美國英語中可表示“不打算(不願意)”。如:I’m not about to stop when I’m so close to success. 在這樣接近成功時我不打算就此罷手。
  
用法三:習慣上不與具體時間狀語連用。由於本身已含有“即將”這樣的時間概念,所以它習慣上不再與 soon, at once, immediately, tomorrow 這樣的具體時間狀語連soon, at once, immediately, tomorrow 我們即將動身。誤:We are about to start at once.正:We are about to start.正:We’ll start at once.
