Nearly a week passed before the girl was able to explain what had happened to her. One afternoon she set out from the coast in a small boat and was caught in a storm. Towards evening, the boat struck a rock and the girl jumped into the sea. Then she swam to the shore after spending the whole night in the ng that time she covered a distance of eight y next morning, she saw a light knew she was near the shore because the light was high up on the cliffs. On arriving at the shore, the girl struggled up the cliff towards the light she had seen. That was all she remembered. When she woke up a day later, she found herself in hospital.

幾乎過了一個星期, 那姑娘才能講述自己的遭遇. 一天下午, 她乘小船從海岸出發, 遇上了風暴. 天將黑時, 小船撞在了一塊礁石上, 姑娘跳進了海里. 她在海里遊了整整一夜才游到岸邊. 在那段時間裏, 她遊了8英里. 第二天凌晨, 她看到前方有燈光, 知道自己已經接近岸邊了, 因爲那燈光是在高高的峭壁上. 到達岸邊後, 姑娘朝着她看到的燈光方向掙扎着往峭壁上爬去. 她所記得的就是這些. 第二天她醒來時, 發現自己躺在醫院裏.
第三部分 LANGUAGE POINTS
1、One afternoon she set out from the coast in a small boat and was caught in a storm.
one afternoon:注意該時間狀語前不加介詞
set out:出發
be caught in a storm:遇上了風暴
be caught in：突然趕上了...，陷入...(一般不太好的事)
2、She swam to the shore after spending the whole night in the water.
after（prep.）+
the water:the sea water
3、Early next morning, she saw a light ahead.
early next morning:第2天一大早
early in the morning：一大早
4、On arriving at the shore, the girl struggled up the cliff towards the light she had seen.
on arriving at the shore:on+動名詞短語，做時間狀語（相當於as soon as she arrived at the shore,...）
the light she had seen前省略that/which
5、That was all she remembered.
That was all（that） she remembered:因爲定語從句中，關係代詞that充當賓語成分，可省略
在代詞all後，如跟定語從句，它後面引導定語從句的關係代詞只能用that，不能用which
6、When she woke up a day later, she found herself in hospital.
find oneself in hospital:發現自己躺在醫院
find oneself...感覺/認識到自己處於某個特定位置或某種情形（非主觀意願決定）
第四部分 KEY STRUCTURES AND USAGE
before的連詞用法
Ex:
1)Nearly a week passed before the girl was able to explain what had happened to her.
2)It was three days before he came back.
3)The phone had rung for one minute before someone answered it.
當before用在句子的中間，連接2個分句，且before前的分句講過了多少時間的情況下，可將before意思理解爲“才”
課文中up的一些用法
1) She knew she was near the shore because the light was high up on the cliffs.
(句中的up表方位概念；high up on the cliff adv+adv+介詞短語)
2) On arriving at the shore, the girl struggled（vi.） up the cliff towards the light she had seen.
（表向上爬的動作；）
