第709期:英語美文 愛是一場馴養

這世上最純最至最美的東西，最真實，最殘酷，最能感同身受的東西，都能在《小王子》中找到答案。這部作品也是隻有短短2萬多字，卻登頂“人類有史以來經典讀物”書單，被譽爲“每個人不可不讀的心靈之書”。 它被譯成300多種語言，在全世界擁有4億多讀者，閱讀率僅次於《聖經》。

《小王子》是法國作家安託萬·德·聖·埃克蘇佩裏於1942年寫成的著名兒童文學短篇小說。本書的主人公是來自外星球的小王子。書中以一位飛行員作爲故事敘述者，講述了小王子從自己星球出發前往地球的過程中，所經歷的各種歷險。他以小王子的孩子式的眼光，刻畫出成人世界中的各種現象，以及通過小王子和玫瑰的故事，深刻闡釋出究竟什麼是愛。

愛是一種獨一無二的感覺，是一種只存在於兩個個體之間的修煉。小王子在他的星球只有玫瑰的時候，玫瑰是他的真愛，因爲她是如此美麗，無人能及。而到了地球，有着成千上萬的玫瑰，他之前視若珍寶的玫瑰便顯得如此平凡無奇。

而下面這段小王子和狐狸的對話，真正闡釋了什麼是愛情。愛情和一個人的外在沒有直接的關係，我們每個人都可以找到與自己外貌經歷性格相似的人。但是，愛情是兩個不同靈魂互相融合的過程。這種過程是獨一無二的，所以它和任何東西都沒有可比性。而正是因爲這種唯一性，讓這種感情愈發顯得珍貴，讓人癡醉。今天我們分享《小王子》第21章，小王子與狐狸的對話。

Good morning, said the fox.

早上好。狐狸說。

Good morning, the little prince responded politely, although when he turned around he saw nothing.

早上好。小王子很有禮貌地回答道。他轉過身來，但什麼也沒有看到。

I am right here, the voice said, under the apple tree.

我在這兒，在蘋果樹下那聲音說。

“Who are you?” asked the little prince, and added, “You are very pretty to look at.”
“你是誰？”小王子說，“你很漂亮。”

“I am a fox,” said the fox.
“我是一隻狐狸。”狐狸說。

“Come and play with me,” proposed the little prince. “I am so unhappy.”
“來和我一起玩吧，”小王子建議道，“我很苦惱……”

“I cannot play with you,” the fox said. “I am not tamed.”
“我不能和你一起玩，”狐狸說，“我還沒有被馴服呢。”

“Ah! Please excuse me,” said the little prince.
“啊！真對不起。”小王子說。

But, after some thought, he added: “What does that mean — 'tame’?”
思索了一會兒，他又說道：“什麼叫‘馴服’呀？”

“It is an act too often neglected,” said the fox. “It means to establish ties.”
“這是已經早就被人遺忘了的事情，”狐狸說，“它的意思就是‘建立聯繫’。”

“To establish ties?”
“建立聯繫？”
“Just that,” said the fox.
“一點不錯，”狐狸說。

“To me, you are still nothing more than a little boy who is just like a hundred thousand other little boys. And I have no need of you. And you, on your part, have no need of me. To you, I am nothing more than a fox like a hundred thousand other foxes. But if you tame me, then we shall need each other. To me, you will be unique in all the world. To you, I shall be unique in all the world...”
“對我來說，你還只是一個小男孩，就像其他千萬個小男孩一樣。我不需要你。你也同樣用不着我。對你來說，我也不過是一隻狐狸，和其他千萬只狐狸一樣。但是，如果你馴服了我，我們就互相不可缺少了。 對我來說，你就是世界上唯一的了，我對你來說，也是世界上唯一的了。”
