Look at the Sky from the Bottom of a Well

坐井觀天

There is a frog. He lives in a well and he never goes out of the well. He thinks the sky is as big as the mouth of the well.

有一隻青蛙住在井底，他從來沒有去過井外面。他以爲天空就和井口一樣大。

One day a crow comes to the well. He sees the frog and says, “Frog, let’s have a talk.”

一天， 一隻烏鴉飛到井邊，看見青蛙，就對它說：“青蛙，咱們聊聊吧。”

Then the frog asks, “Where are you from?”

青蛙就問他：“你從哪裏來?”

“I fly from the sky,” the crow says.

“我從天上上來。”烏鴉說。

The frog feels surprised and says, “The sky is only as big as the mouth of the well. How do you fly from the sky?”

青蛙驚訝地說：“天空就只有這井口這麼大，你怎麼會從天上來? ”

The crow says, “The sky is very big. You always stay in the well, so you don’t know theworld is big.”

烏鴉說：“天空很大。只不過你一直呆在井裏，所有不知道世界很大。”

The frog says, “I don’t believe.”

青蛙說：“我不相信。”

But the crow says, “You can come out and have a look by yourself.”

烏鴉說：“你可以出來，自己看看嘛。”

So the frog comes out from the well. He is very surprised. How big the world is!

於是青蛙來到井外。他十分驚訝，原來世界這麼大!

A Clever Panda

聰明的熊貓

A little panda picks up a pumpkin and wants to take it home. But the pumpkin is too big. The panda can’t take it home.

一隻小熊貓摘了一隻大南瓜，想把它拿回家。但是這隻南瓜太大了，她沒有辦法把這麼大的南瓜帶回家。

Suddenly she sees a bear riding a bike toward her. She watches the bike. “I know! I have a good idea.” she jumps and shouts happily, “I can roll a pumpkin. It’s like awheel.”

突然她看見一隻狗熊騎着一輛自行車朝她這邊來。她看着自行車，跳着說：“有了!我有辦法了。我可以把南瓜滾回家去。南瓜好像車輪。

So she rolls the pumpkin to her home. When her mother sees the big pumpkin, she is surprised, “Oh, my God! How can you carry it home?” the little panda answers proudly, “I can’t lift it, but I can roll it.” Her mother smiled and says，“What a clever girl!”

於是她把那瓜滾回家。當她媽媽看到這隻大南瓜的時候，很驚訝：“天啊!這麼食的南瓜!你是怎麼把它帶回家來的?”小熊貓自豪地說;“我拎不動它，可是我能滾動它啊!”她媽媽微笑着說：“真聰明啊!”

Naughty Brother

頑皮的弟弟

Donny is my little brother. He is a naughty boy.

東尼是我的小弟弟，他是個調皮的孩子。

On Sunday morning Donny went into the yard and played with a dog. Sometimes a birdwould come down to stay on the top of the dog’s house. Then Donny threw a stone at it. Suddenly the little boy began crying. Mother ran to Donny and asked him what was wrong. He said, “I’ve broken sister’s plate. She has beaten me.” “Why?” “I threw it at a bird, and it went straight to the plate.”

星期天早晨，東尼跑到院子裏跟小狗玩。恰巧，一直小鳥落在狗舍上，東尼就用石頭砸它。突然，這個小男孩哭了起來。媽媽跑過去問出了什麼事。他哭着說：“我姐姐盤子摔碎了，她打了我!”“爲什麼?”“我拿石頭砸一直小鳥，但是卻打碎了姐姐的盤子。”

Such was my naught brother.

哎，這是我淘氣的弟弟。

I Can’t Cook It

我沒法煮它

It’s sunny day in spring. Miss Cat is fishing. Suddenly the fishing rod moves. “Great! Oh, it’s so heavy!” Miss Cat says happily.

這是春天裏一個陽光明媚的日子，貓小姐在河邊釣魚。突然魚竿動了動。“太棒了!哇，好重啊!”貓小姐高興地喊着。

The fish is plucked out of the river. “Oh, a big fish! How big the fish is!” She cheers. But she puts the fish into the river and goes on fishing.

魚被拉出來了。“啊!一條大魚!這條大魚可真大呀!”她歡呼道。但是她卻把魚放回河裏，又繼續釣魚。

At the time Mr. Horse goes by and sees it. “Why do you set it free?” He asks. “Because my pot is too small, I can’t cook it,” Miss Cat says.

這時候馬先生路過，看見這一切，就問她：“爲什麼你把魚放了?” “因爲我的鍋太小。我沒辦法燒這麼大的魚。”貓小姐回答說。

The Ox and the Dog

牛和狗

An ox and a dog serve for the same farmer.

一頭牛和一隻狗同時爲一個農夫工作。

One day the dog arrogantly says: “How grand I am! In the daytime, I watch out for thecattle in the meadows; at night, I guard the house. But you…”

一天, 狗驕傲地說着;‘我是多麼重要啊!白天我在牧場看護家羣，晚上我看家。而你呢…..?”

“Me? How about me?” the ox says

“我?我怎麼啦?“牛反問。

“You can only plough or draw a cart,” the dog slightly says.

“你只會犁地或是拉車。”狗輕微地說。

“Yes. It’s true,” the ox says. “But if I don’t plough, what do you guard?”

“是的。你說得沒有錯，”牛回答道。“但是如果沒有我犁地，你看護什麼呢?”

Who Pours Ink on My Chair?

誰把墨水倒在我椅子了?

Donny is a seven year old boy. He goes to school every day. The school is near his home.

唐尼是個7歲孩子，每天他都上學。學校在他的家附近。

So he goes there on foot and comes back home on time. But today, he is late.

因爲，他不行去上學並按時回家。但是今天他回來遲了。

His mother asks him, “Why do you go to the headmaster’s office?”

他的母親問他：“你爲什麼去校長的辦公室?”

“Because the teacher asks us a question in class and nobody can answer it, but I can.”

“因爲老師在上課時老師問我們一個問題，沒有人能回答他，而我能。”

“It’s good to answer the teacher’s question.”

“回答老師的問題是好事。”

“But the question is ‘Who pours ink on my chair?’”

“但那個問題 ‘誰把墨水倒在我的椅子上了?’”

Animals

動物

There are many kinds of animals in the world. People don’t know the exact numbers.

世界上有許多鍾動物，人們不知道它們確切的數目。

In the zoo, people can see many kinds of animals. For example, lions, tigers, they arescary. Monkey, foxes are intelligent. People usually think pandas, koala bears are so cuteand smart. Some animals live in the water, such as dolphins. They need a lot of water for their home. And elephants with long nose are very strange. They can sing and dance. The giraffes are quite tall because of their long necks. So they can reach the top of the trees.

在動物園裏人們可以看到很多種類的動物，如：獅子、老虎，它們都令人害怕;猴子和狐狸是狡猾的;人們認爲熊貓，考拉熊是如此伶俐和聰明。有些動物居住在水裏，如海豚，它們的家需要很多的水。大象長有奇特的長鼻子，它們會唱歌和跳舞。長頸鹿長着非常長的脖子，因爲他們可以夠到數的頂部。

The Dog and His Shadow

It happened that a dog had some meat that he wanted to eat at home. On his way home he met a river. As he looked down, he saw his shadow in the water.

一隻狗叼着肉打算回家去吃。在回家的路上他遇到一條河。他朝河裏望去，看見水中自己的影子。

"Just look!"said he to himself. "That dog down there has　some meat, too. If I could get it away from him, I would really eat well tonight!"

“看吶!”他自言自語道。“下面那條狗也銜着肉呢。如果我把他的搶走，今晚上一定可以美餐一頓了!”

With this thought, he made a snap at the other dog's　meat. And as he did, his own meat fell into the water. So then he had nothing at　all.

這麼想着，他就衝那隻影子狗咬去，這時候他自己的肉掉進了水裏。當然他什麼也沒有得到。

Then he saw that the other dog had lost his meat, too.

"That is as it should be!?thought he. "For I saw him trying to take my meat away　from me."

然後，他看到另一隻狗的肉也沒了。“活該!”他想，“因爲我看到他想從我這裏搶走我的肉。”

By wanting to have everything, he has lost everything he had!

什麼都想要，卻失去了原來所擁有的!
