Tip:
fail表示"失敗"，通常用做不及物動詞。表示在某一方面失敗，通常用介詞in。如 He failed in business. (他經商失敗。 );表示"(考試)不及格 fail可用作及物或不及物動詞(以及物動詞爲多見)，所以以下各例中 fail後的介詞 ln均可以省略 He failed (in) his driving-test. (他駕駛考試沒及格。 );而且，其後可接不定式，意爲"不能""沒有""忘記"等。如: He failed to pass the exam. (他考試沒有及格。)
