第845期:聽到Up in the air不是在空中

前一段時間看了《在雲端》這部電影，它的英文名叫做《Up in the air》，光是這個電影的名字，都有很大的學問。

Up in the air,在電影中，講述的是一名叫瑞恩·賓厄姆的公司裁員專家，他 的工作是飛來飛去爲各地公司去解決麻煩，他人生的目標則是乘坐飛機積攢的英里數達到1000萬，從而晉升爲白金會員。他是一個不折不扣的“飛地達人”。

Up在這裏指的是方位，in the air，則指他坐着飛機來往各地。
而Up in the air 本身作爲一個短語來講，也有懸而未決; 未決定的意思，比如這個句子：

He told reporters today that the president's trip to Moscow is up in the air.

今天他告訴記者們總統是否前往莫斯科尚未確定。

How about your interview result? It's up in the air.
你的面試結果怎麼樣？懸而未決。

如果將up 去掉，只剩下in the air,除了表示“在空(氣)中”的意思之外，也有另外一層大多數人忽視的意思。

首先我們來看，in the air-在空氣裏

因爲空氣無處不在，那麼在空氣中的東西，必定是每個人都能看到，感到的，

所以in the air,便引申出了：

可感覺到; 可被意識到的意思

(in the air means something like a mood that everybody can feel)
