我們首先還是來回顧一下Jack描述的關於自己的故事：

Jack: Oh! No. There's Bonnie Margolin. A year ago, some mutual friends of ours fixed us up because they thought we would hit it off. Unfortunately, she was on the rebound, so I didn't want to get involved. I tired to let her down easy but she got furious and started screaming at me. Oh, no! She's coming this way. Run!

Jack說到的“on the rebound”是什麼意思呢？今天，我們就來學習這個原味表述：on the rebound。

To be on the rebound means to be reacting or recovering from an unhappy experience, especially the end of a love affair. 它是指：失戀後急於談戀愛。

對於失戀後急於談戀愛的人，我們可是要小心。剛失戀或者離婚的人心靈都受到很深的傷害，於是就急着就找一個人談戀愛或結婚。這樣的人很有可能是把你當做心靈失落傷痛的替代物而已，並非是真心愛你。這樣的戀情和婚姻是不會長久的。我們來看下面的句子：

If you are going out with Tina, be careful. She's on the rebound and may want to get seriously involved too early. （你要和Tina談戀愛，可要小心。他剛剛失戀，急着找替身了，說不定就想把關係儘快搞定了。）

Ps ：get involved：介入 get involved with sb. ：與某人有染

If you want to start a serious relationship with Mindy, don't ask her out now—she's on the rebound and still cries over her breakup every day.（如果你要和Mindy認真建立戀愛關係，現在還是不要和她也會。因爲她剛失戀，急着找替身，每天都在哭着了。）

Ps : start a serious relationship with：與......談戀愛 cry over：因......而哭泣

She quarreled with Paul and then married Peter on the rebound from him. I know it would not last long. （她和Paul爭吵後，離開了他憤而嫁給了Peter。我知道這不會長久的。）

Ps : quarrel with：與......爭吵 marry sb. on the rebound from sb.：離開某人轉而嫁給某人

On the rebound是非正式書面用語，那麼Jack說的“She was on the rebound.”用標準書面英語來說則是：She was eager to get back into a relationship after recently ending one.
