天氣漸漸轉涼，有時候和朋友約好出去玩，卻因爲天氣原因覺得“還是待在家裏吧”。這句話的意思就是“天太冷了，我們還是呆在家裏吧。”這裏有一個句型——You/We may as well，這個句型表示委婉的建議，一般是針對當時的情況提出另外的提議，意思是“我們不妨……，我們還是……吧”。其中的may可以替換爲might，後面可以加just。We may just as well go to a movie.我們不妨去看場電影。It's too cold to go out. We may as well stay at home.天太冷了，我們還是呆在家裏吧。
3. You only have to call her in order to know whether she will come or not.
週末有場聚會，時間開始了而某人還沒有出現，這時候你只要打個電話就知道她是否會來了。You only have to call her in order to know whether she will come or not. 這是個簡單的句子。You only have to call her——你只要給她打個電話；in order to 表示“爲了”，to know whether she will come or not——知道她是否回來。意思簡單，但我們可以總結出一個句型：You only have to... in order to... 你只要……就……。I only have to ask the teacher in order to solve the problem.我只要去問問老師就能解決這個問題了。You only have to call her in order to know whether she will come or not. 你只要打個電話就知道她是否會來了。
