廣播學口語:一家之主

大家好，笨小孩廣播學口語準時與大家相約，Andy 送上最誠摯的問候, good day, everyone !今天我們來學習的兩個俚語是I have to make ends meet和She wears the trousers in the family.

我們先來看第一句俚語I have to make ends meet 是“結尾，終點“的意思，meet, “相遇”。Make ends meet,讓終點相聯結，也就是使這一頭和那一頭能碰上，能接上，用在錢上就是“使收支相抵”。
傑克和露絲有兩個孩子，而他們倆的工資都很低，趕上公司裁員，露絲失業了，他們的生活更加拮据了，鄰居里德夫人對裏德先生說：“Rose is out of work and they have two young children, they will find it is impossible to make ends meet.（露絲失業了，他們有兩個孩子，他們將無法維持生活。）”
裏德先生也覺得有道理，他點點頭說：“Yeah . Both of them have to work to make ends meet.（是啊，他們倆都得工作纔可維持生活。）” 有沒有人花錢大手大腳的呢？那可要注意收支相抵啊，不然會出現赤字的。

下面我們來看第二句話She wears the trousers in the family ser是“褲子”的意思，wear the trousers, 穿褲子，在這句話裏的意思是 “當家，做主 ，掌權（尤指婚姻關係）”，而且通常是對於女子而言的。She wears the trousers in the family，就是“在家裏她是一家之主”。
裏德先生娶了一個精明能幹的妻子，可這爲女士太精明能幹了，以至於什麼事都要經她手處理。她常對裏德說：“You should know who wears the trousers in the house.（你應該清楚家裏誰說了算。）”
大家都知道里德先生怕老婆，都互相議論說：“Mr. Read is henpecked by his wife. Mrs. Read wears the trousers in that family. （裏德先生怕老婆，在家裏裏德夫人 是一家之主。）”
