Young people in the workforce are changing jobs or careers every few years. What do you think are the reasons? Do you think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?

It is true that many people change their jobs when they do not think the career deserves their time and devotion. This essay will discuss the possible reasons and its benefits and drawbacks as well.

Money is one of the most essential elements when deciding to hop to another job. We have to admit that the majority of people, the young graduates in particular, choose a career based on the size of the salary because they have to rely on their salaries to make ends meet or support their whole family. Once the salary cannot satisfy their basic needs, they tend to select a new job. Another contributing factor is job-hopping creates new possibilities for a man to become versatile which is of great assistance to get a decent job. For example, if a businessman is qualified to be an economist, he can have his knowledge and experience imparted to students, which benefits both the two.

Our world is full of challenges. Thereby, only one field of expertise may be difficult for us to achieve success. Different corporations have different cultures, specialties and strategies, which allow employees to acquire different skills. As a result, switching jobs is a rational choice. However, the negative effects this trend brings cannot be ignored. Abandoning the current work and embracing a new one is highly likely to be considered as the job candidate's lack of resilience and loyalty. In this regard, the employers may have a bad impression on him. But on the condition that he can really fulfill his potential and make contributions to the development of the company, that undesirable impression would not matter.

In conclusion, shifting one job from one to another can contribute to lots of merits in terms of one's economic and professional betterness.

Some people think that technology makes life complex, and that we should make life simpler without using technologies. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

When it comes to the issue about the impact of technology, some people argue that it is better to promote simple life styles without technology, but I approve of the idea that our life becomes more convenient thanks to technology.

To begin with, the way of communication is simpler due to technological improvements. In the past, it was inconvenient for individuals to contact others if they were far from each other and letter writing might be the only method of long distance communication. However, telecommunications in the current era allow people to communicate with anyone through telephones or internet. Thus, technologies actually facilitate communications, connecting people to each other.

In addition, technology reduces labor intensity greatly. Decades ago, it was common that workers needed to do a lot of labor-intensive work repeatedly and housewives needed to spend several hours on domestic affairs. In contrast, automatic assembly line serves to liberate workers from such hard work and modern appliances could shorten the time of doing housework every day. As a result, modern life becomes simpler since individuals can avoid meaningless work and spare more time on other parts of life.

Admittedly, some opponents may believe that their work has become more complex due to modern technology because they need to adopt some new systems, such as those Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, which waste extra time and are not friendly to users, especially old users. However, they are neglecting the potential benefits and convenience brought by modern technology. The fact is that enterprises could better manage their resources with the use of ERP systems, which contributes to regulating enterprises more scientifically. Besides, enterprises will also provide their employees with guideline for new systems, and many employees refuse to use new systems just because they are too lazy to change themselves, which cannot be a reasonable excuse for denying technologies.

To sum up, life is not complex with technology and human beings should embrace technology, considering that technology offers humans convenient ways of communication and reduces labor intensity.

Some people think the fittest and strongest individual help achieve success in sports. Some people believe success is much related to mental attitude. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

With the rising importance of sports in international community, many sports celebrities won a stratospheric level of popularity as Hollywood film stars. Many studies have been undertaken to determine the reasons why some people make outstanding athletes. While it is certainly true that physical prowess is an essential ingredient for sporting success, it is clear that the difference between the 'good' and the 'great' athletes relates more to the mentality of the individual in question.

Undoubtedly, the key facet for any athlete must be their physical ability to engage in their chosen sport. Without the capacity to run long distances, no long distance runner could hope to achieve success in this particular field of athleticism. Likewise, people adept at ball games must have a technical capability with the ball to be able to reach the highest levels of their profession. Thus, it goes without saying that the most important attributes for any athlete are indeed physical.

Nonetheless, the difference between a footballer like Lionel Messi, for example, and a player slightly below his level is surely mental. Outstanding sports professionals are able to reach a higher level of athletic ability because of the mental attributes they are either born with or which they nourish over time. Few football players will ever reach the relentless high standards set by players like Messi and his contemporary, Cristiano Ronaldo. These individuals stand alone purely because of their ability to apply themselves to improving their game and sustaining consistent levels of excellence.

Therefore, while physical attributes underpin the careers of all athletes, those who truly excel must have a higher level of mental application to succeed at the highest level. In other words, it is the mental ability that would propel the good athletes to the level of great or higher success in their career.

 雅思寫作中的大小詞要注意

今天就帶大家來感受一下雅思寫作用詞的其中一個小心機:大小詞。

讓我們來看一篇範文:

It is important for children to learn the difference between right and wrong at an early age. Punishment is necessary to help them learn this distinction. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion? What sort of punishment should parents and teachers be allowed to use to teach good behavior to children?

One important stage in a child’s growth is certainly the development of a conscience, which is linked to the ability to tell right from wrong. This skill comes with time and good parenting, and my conviction is that punishment does not have much of a role to play in this. Therefore I have to disagree almost entirely with the given statement.

To some extent the question depends on the age of the child. To punish a very young child is both wrong and foolish, as an infant will not understand what is happening or why he or she is being punished. Once the age of reason is reached however, a child can be rewarded for good behavior and discouraged from bad. This kind but firm approach will achieve more than harsh punishments, which might entail many negative consequences unintended by the parents.

To help a child learn the difference between right and wrong, teachers and parents should firstly provide good role modelling in their own behavior. After that, if sanctions are needed, the punishment should not be of a physical nature, as that merely sends the message that it is acceptable for larger people to hit smaller ones – an outcome which may well result in the child starting to bully others. Nor should the punishment be in any way cruel.

Rather, teachers and parents can use a variety of methods to discipline their young charges, such as detention, withdrawal of privileges, and time-out. Making the punishment fit the crime as a useful notion, which would see children being made to pick up rubbish they have dropped, clean up graffiti they have drawn, or apologise to someone they have hurt. In these days responsibility is developed in the child, which leads to much better future behavior than does punishment.

Q

Countries are becoming more and more similar because people are able to buy the same products anywhere in the world.

Do you think this is a positive or negative development?

It is said that countries are becoming similar to each other because of the global spread of the same products, which are now available for purchase almost anywhere. I strongly believe that this modern development is largely detrimental to culture and traditions worldwide.

A country’s history, language and ethos are all inextricably bound up in its manufactured artefacts. If the relentless advance of international brands into every corner of the world continues, these bland packages might one day completely oust the traditional objects of a nation, which would be a loss of richness and diversity in the world, as well as the sad disappearance of the manifestations of a place’s character. What would a Japanese tea ceremony be without its specially crafted teapot, or a Fijian kava ritual without its bowl made from a certain type of tree bark?

Let us not forget either that traditional products, whether these be medicines, cosmetics, toys, clothes, utensils or food, provide employment for local people. The spread of multinational products can often bring in its wake a loss of jobs, as people turn to buying the new brand, perhaps thinking it more glamorous than the one they are used to. This eventually puts old-school craftspeople out of work.

Finally, tourism numbers may also be affected, as travellers become disillusioned with finding every place just the same as the one they visited previously. To see the same products in shops the world over is boring, and does not impel visitors to open their wallets in the same way that trinkets or souvenirs unique to the particular area do.

Some may argue that all people are entitled to have access to the same products, but I say that local objects suit local conditions best, and that faceless uniformity worldwide is an unwelcome and dreary prospect.
