評論員報道:航班搜救合作或拉近中美關係

Former U.S. ambassador to China Jon huntsman said the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 could bring China and the U.S. closer by reviving military-to-military collaboration in areas he said had languished.

前美國駐華大使洪博培(Jon Huntsman)表示，馬來西亞航空(Malaysia Airlines)失聯的370航班的搜尋工作令兩國恢復了某些領域的軍事合作，可能從而拉近中美關係。他說，兩國在某些領域的合作有些落後。

In particular, ties between the two countries on emergency-related search and rescue are 'woefully inadequate,' he said. 'Sadly enough, sometimes you need a tragedy to stimulate further cooperation.'

他說，特別是在緊急搜救方面，兩國之間的合作十分缺乏。他同時說，遺憾的是，有時候需要發生災難才能刺激兩國進一步的軍事合作。

Mr. Huntsman said the hunt for the plane--which is now in its 11th day--would also likely boost search and rescue, information sharing and counterterrorism as subjects on the agendas of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation forum and other regional bodies.

洪博培說，對失聯航班的搜尋（目前搜尋工作已進入第11天）還可能促使搜救、信息共享以及反恐等主題擺上亞太經濟合作組織(Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation)和其他地區機構的議事日程。

Effective collaboration among countries requires setting aside hostility and tension, and seeing beyond the screaming headlines of the day, he said.

他說，國家之間要想展開有效合作，就要把敵對情緒和緊張關係放在一邊，不要被媒體當下的喧囂所裹挾。

If successful, such activities could increasingly become a point of strength for Beijing and Washington. 'We both have the capacity, [but] we lack the coordination,' Mr. Huntsman said.

洪博培表示，如果成功，這種搜救活動可逐漸成爲中國和美國的強項。他說，兩國都有這個能力，但缺乏合作。

Speaking to China Real Time in Shanghai on the sidelines of the EF Global Student Leaders Summit--a two-day workshop that brings Chinese and American students together to solve problems--Mr. Huntsman said for effective dialogue to occur between the world's two largest economies, both sides first need to overcome significant cultural, language and geographic obstacles.

洪博培在上海EF全球學生峯會(EF Global Student Leaders Summit)期間對“中國實時報”欄目表示，中國和美國這兩個全球最大的經濟體之間要進行有效對話，兩國首先都要克服巨大的文化、語言和地理障礙。

Referring to the students gathered in Shanghai, he said: 'This is an example of where you have the next generation on the ground, able to better understand the cultural dynamics and the global challenges that China is facing and ultimately how you work toward solutions,' he said. 'I can't think of a more powerful exercise.'

在提到參加全球學生峯會的學生們的時候他說，這是個很好的例子，說明中國下一代人正在進行演練，他們能更好地理解文化互動模式、中國正面臨的全球挑戰，知道最終如何達成解決方案。他說，我想不出有什麼演練能比這個更有力了。
