Taiyuan University of Technology can have its history traced all the way back to Western Learning School of National Shanxi Grand h was established in 1902 as one of the earliest universities in the history of 100 years，it is now a modern general university，which is majored in engineering，conjoined by engineering and sciences，and harmonized with many disciplines such as sciences，engineering，liberal arts，administration， economics,law, physical education，arts and military affairs. Taiyuan University of Technology is the only university in Shanxi Province that is nominated as one of the top 100 universities in“Project 211”and also one of the five state key universities in Central China.

太原理工大學前身是創立於1902年的國立山西大學堂西學專齋，是我國最早成立的三所國立大學之一。經過百餘年的傳承與發展，學校已建設成爲一所以工爲主，理工結合，理、工、文、管、經、法、體、美、軍等多學科協調發展的高等學府，是山西省唯一一所國家“211工程”重點建設大學，也是國家中部地區重點建設的五所高校之一。

This university consists of 20 colleges offering 353 undergraduate disciplines，78 master s degree programs，25 second-grade doctorate programs，4 first-grade doctorate programs，5 post-doctor research centers，2 national key disciplines,9 provincial key disciplines and 8 provincial supported disciplines al) of which are playing a leading role in the scientific research in the university.

學校有20個專業學院，設有353個本科專業，78個碩士點，25個二級學科博士學位授權點，4個一級學科博士學位授權點，5個博士後科研流動站，2個國家級重點學科，9個省市級重點學科，以及8個省支持學科，在學校科研中發揮引導作用。

The university pays great emphasis on scientific research. It has 1 state key laboratory，14 key laboratories at the provincial-ministry level，1 state engineering center，8 state bases of basic disciplines for talent cultivation and scientific research，1 education base of cultural quality and 6 key research bases of the Ministry of Education for humanities and social sciences.

學校非常重視科學研究，一個國家重點實驗室，14個省部級重點實驗室，一個國家工程中心，8個國家基礎學科人才培養和科學研究基地，一個文化素質教育基地，6個教育部人文社會科學重點研究基地。

Taiyuan University of Technology has a strong faculty of more than 1 800 fulltime teaching staff, including over 1 000 full and associate professors，59 doctoral supervisors，7 middle-age experts with outstanding contributions at the national leve1，2 recipients of the State Outstanding Youth Foundation，over 100 recipients of special subsidies from the central government, 4 scientific heroes of Shanxi Province，10 Excellent Experts at the provincial level，12 Outstanding College Lecturers at the provincial level and nearly 100 well-known scholars both at home and abroad are nominated honorary or guest professors.

學校師資力量雄厚，現有專任教師1 800餘名，其中教授、副教授等高級專業技術人員1 000餘名，博士生導師59名，國家級有突出貢獻的中青年專家7名，國家傑出青年基金獲得者2名，100餘名教授享受政府特殊津貼，山西省科技功臣4名，省級優秀專家10名，省級教學名師12名，近100名國內外著名學者被聘爲名譽教授或客座教授。

At present，there are over20 000 undergraduates，4 511 master's degree and Ph. D. students studying at the university.

太原理工大學目前共有本科生2萬餘人，其中4 511名全職碩士、博士生。

歷史變遷

1901 Shanxi Chinese-Western Grand Academy，the predecessor of Taiyuan University of Technology，was founded

1901年太原工業大學的前身山西中西大學堂創建。

1912 It was renamed National Industry Faculty，Shanxi Grand Academy.

1912年更名爲國立山西大學校工科。

1914 Shanxi Province School of Industry merged into the Academy.

1914年山西工業學校並人。

1931 It was renamed College of Technology，Shanxi University.

1931年更名爲山西大學工學院。

1953 It was renamed Taiyuan Institute of Technology

1953年更名爲太原工學院:

t959 Datong Mining Institute merged into it

1959年大同礦業學院並人，

1961 Datong College of Coal Mines merged into it

1961年大同煤炭專科學校並人。

1961 Shanxi Province Coal Management Personnel School merged into it.

1961年山西煤炭幹部管理學校併入。

1962 Shanxi Institute of Hydrology merged into it.

1962年山西水力學院併入。

1962 Shanxi Institute of Chemistry merged into it.

1962年山西化工學院並人。

1981 Shanxi University of Coal Chemical Technology merged into it

1981年山西煤炭化工大學並人。

1984 It was renamed Taiyuan University of Technology under the administration of Shanxi Province.

1984年更名爲太原工業大學，爲陝西省直屬院校。

1997 Taiyuan University of Technology was under the co-administration of Shanxi Province and the Ministry of Coal.

1997年更名爲太原理工大學，由陝西省和煤炭部共建。

2000 Shanxi Textile Industry School merged into Taiyuan University of Technology.

2000年山西省紡織工業學校並人。
