1. between jobs

between jobs是unemployed（失業的）的委婉說法，替換表達還有lose one's job或者out of work 。

2. cut out to be

cut out to be可以表示“天生適合做某事”，而cut out單獨的意思是（發動機、機器或設備）突然熄火，停止運轉。

One of the plane's engines cut out, so they had to land with only one.

飛機的一個引擎突然出了故障，所以他們只好靠一個引擎着陸。

另外，“天生適合”還可以這麼說：be a natural for sth。

She won't have any troubles learning to ride a horse - you can see she's a natural.

她學習騎馬不會有任何困難——可以看得出她天生就是個騎手。

3. push me aside

▲曾經做過籃球教練的菲爾自告奮勇想臨時擔任孩子們的教練，誰知傑攬下教練的活根本不給菲爾機會。在傑的指導下，籃球隊反而越來越糟。萬般無奈之下傑只好低頭請菲爾來做教練。

push sb/sth aside的意思是“忘記；把…擱置一邊，不理會”。

He claimed that he had been pushed aside (= not given a job) in favour of a younger person.

他說他被擠掉了，他們把工作給了一個更年輕的人。
