《摩登家庭》S02E01：學會放手也是人生的一部分

1. eat humble pie

▲克萊爾說菲爾賣不出去這輛舊車，結果有人打電話說對這車有興趣。

eat humble pie也可以說eat crow，意思是“認錯；道歉”。

After boasting that his company could outperform the industry's best, he's been forced to eat humble pie.

他吹噓他的公司可以壓倒業內最好的企業，但之後，他就不得不承認言過其實了。

2. pipe dream

▲克萊爾不想賣掉這輛車了，因爲滿滿都是和孩子們的回憶。菲爾問怎麼可以讓克萊爾感覺好點，她說需要一個時間機器。

pipe dream就是白日夢，幻想，妄想；行不通的計劃。

Her plans are not realistic - they'll never be more than a pipe dream.

她的計劃不太現實，永遠只能是個白日夢。

當然，白日夢還可以說daydream，不過daydream更多表示“美夢，幻想，白日夢”。

3. intern 

intern是“實習人員，實習生”，I was an intern at……可以作爲自我介紹的模版哦。

這個詞也有動詞意思，表示（尤指戰時因政治或軍事原因）拘禁，扣押，關押。

Many foreigners were interned for the duration of the war.

戰爭期間許多外國人被拘禁。

4. time marches on

march on是軍事用語，意思是行進，前進。

They march on the next town.

他們向下一個城鎮進軍。

time marches on就表示時間過得很快，光陰似箭。

5. let go

It's gonna be tough to say always dy loves , part of life is learning to let things go.

真的很難說再見，世事皆如此。沒人喜歡改變，但是，學會放手也是人生的一部分。

let go的主要意思有兩個：

①放開，鬆手

Hold on tight and don't let go!

抓緊，別鬆手！

②放下（不再想過去的某事或因之而惱怒）

You need to let the past go and forgive those who have hurt you.

你需要放下過去，寬恕那些傷害過你的人。
