臺灣總統馬英九同意與學生代表對話

A resolution for a weeklong standoff between Taiwan government and student protesters may be taking shape, as President Ma Ying-jeou on Tuesday said he has agreed to meet with student leaders.

臺灣總統馬英九週二表示，他同意與學生運動領袖會面，這使政府與學生示威者之間長達一週的僵局有望化解。

In a statement, presidential spokeswoman Garfei Li said Mr. Ma is 'wilLing to invite students, without any preset conditions, to a face-to-face meeting.' Mr. Ma hopes the dialogue 'will end the deadlock and let the legislature resume normal operation,' Ms. Li said.

馬英九辦公室發言人李佳霏在一份聲明中說，馬英九願在不預設任何前提的情況下，邀請學生代表面對面對話。李佳霏說，馬英九希望對話能化解僵局，讓立法機構恢復正常。

For a week, over thousands of protesters have paralyzed the legislative building in downtown Taipei by occupying the main meeting chamber.

一週來，數千名示威者佔領了臺北市中心立法院大樓的主要會議室，使得立法院議場陷入癱瘓。

The protesters say a services trade pact signed with China last year is detrimental to Taiwan and the entire negotiation process lacked transparency. They have demanded a meeting with the president, an immediate retraction of the pact, and an implementation of a monitoring mechanism to oversee all future cross-strait deals.

抗議者們表示，臺灣去年與大陸簽署的服貿協定不利於臺灣，而且整個協商流程缺乏透明度。他們提出的要求包括：與馬英九會面、立即撤銷服貿協定，以及設立監管未來所有兩岸協議的監督機制。

Student leader Lin Fei-fan told reporters he would agree to speak with Mr. Ma but only at an open venue where the public can take part in the discussion.

抗議學生領袖林飛帆告訴記者，他願意和馬英九對話，但前提是必須在一個公開場合，讓公衆也能參與討論。

'We welcome a meeting with President Ma but we don't want him to just reiterate what he has been saying many times in the past,' Mr. Lin said.

林飛帆表示，很歡迎與馬總統對話，但不希望對話停留在馬總統的老調重彈上。

On March 17, hundreds of protesters stormed into the building and took over the chamber by barricading themselves in the room. Dubbed as the 'sunflower movement', the demonstration quickly grew in size and strength. At its peak, over 20,000 people gathered outside the building to support the cause.

3月17日，數百名抗議者衝入臺灣立法院大樓，佔據了立法院議場，還在議場裏設置障礙。這場被稱爲“向日葵學運”的示威隊伍規模和聲勢都迅速壯大。最多的時候有超過2萬人集結在立法院大樓外聲援。
