In silence and tears ，
Half broken-hearted
To sever for years ，
Pale grew thy cheek and Cold，
Colder thy kiss；
Truly that hour foretold
Sorrow to this
The dew of the morning
Sunk chill on my brow
It felt like the warnin
Of what I feel now .
Thy vows are all broken，
And light is thy fame；
I hear thy name spoken，
And share in its shame.
They name three before me，
A knel to mine ear；
A shudder come o'er me ——
Why wert thou so dear？
They know not I knew thee，
Who knew thee too well——
Long ，lon I shall rue thee，
Too deeply to tell.
In secret we met，
In silence I grieve，
Thy spirit deceive
If I should meet thee
After long years，
How should I greet thee？
With silence and tears.

記得當時我倆分手，
相對無言地垂淚，
得分開多少年頭，
真令人心兒欲碎；
你的臉蒼白冰涼，
你的吻更有寒意；
下地是那一刻時光
預告了我的悲慼！
那天清晨的寒露
冷徹了我的眉角，
我所感到的露珠
象是今天的警告。
你背棄山盟海誓，
名聲也變得輕浮：
人們當面提你，
我都會感到羞辱。
人們說出你的名字，
我聽來尤如喪鐘；
忍不住周身顫慄——
我爲何對你鍾情？
人不知我倆相識，
我對你瞭解太透，
我將爲你深深嘆息，
深沉得難以啓口。
憶昔日幽會想見，
想今朝黯然悲傷，
你竟然把我欺騙，
你竟然把我淡忘。
假若許多年之後，
我倆又邂逅相遇，
我對你該如何稱呼？
只有含着淚默默無語
