 本句主幹爲if you are a person as I am…… then the whole subject becomes complicated。if引導的條件狀語從句中包含兩個並列平行的定語從句，分別爲who is perfectly delighted for…以及but who also believes in…。破折號之間的部分爲對elites的補充說明，這裏又出現了not only…but…表現的並列平行結構，but引導的第二個並列分句中，謂語動詞thinks後有they ought to be cherished及that…兩個並列的賓語從句，只是they ought to be cherished前面的that被省略。
