第761期:英語美文 We are on a journey

今天這個文章我很喜歡，因爲它提醒了我們時時刻刻的一種狀態，那就是變化。不管你失敗，成功，不作爲或是你認爲自己沒有任何變化，即使這樣，我們每一個人都會在以某種方式朝一個方向前進。

Wherever you are, and whoever you may be, there is one thing in which you and I are just alike at this moment, and in all the moments of our existence. We are not at rest; we are on a journey.

不論你處在什麼地方，也不論你是什麼人，不管是在此時此刻，還是在我們生命中的任何一個瞬間，有一件事對你我來說是恰巧相同的。我們不是在休息，我們是在一次旅途中。

Our life is a movement, a tendency, ceaseless progress toward an unseen goal. We are gaining something, or losing something, every day. Even when our position and our character seem to remain precisely the same, they are changing. For the mere advance of time is a change. It is not the same thing to have a bare field in January and in July. The season makes the difference.

我們的生活是一種運動，一種趨勢，是向一個看不見的目標穩定而不停的進步。每一天，我們都會贏得某些東西，或者會失去某些東西。甚至當我們的位置和我們的性格看起來跟以前完全相似時，它們事實上仍然在變化着。僅僅是時間的前進就是一種變化。對於一塊荒地來說，在1月和7月是不同的。季節會製造差異。

The limitations that are childlike in the children are childish in the man. Everything that we do is a step in one direction or another. Even the failure to do something is in itself a deed. It sets us forward or backward. The action of the negative pole of a magnetic needle is just as real as the action of the positive pole. To decline is to accept, the other alternative.

能力上的缺陷對於孩子來說是一種可愛的品質，但對於大人來說就是一種幼稚的表現。我們做的每一件事都是朝着一個或另一個方向前進一步。甚至“沒有做任何事情”這件事本身也是一種行爲。它讓我們前進或後退。一磁針陰極的作用和陽極的作用都是一樣真實的。拒絕也是一種接受，這些都是二中擇一的選擇。

你今天比昨天更接近你的港口了嗎？是的，你必須接近某一個港口或者其他港口。自從你第一次被拋入生活之海，你的船連一分鐘都沒有靜止過，海是如此之深，你也不可能找到一個拋錨的地方，於是你不可能停下來，直到你到達自己的港口。
