Making a Comparison比較

Jim: Can I ask you a question?
Lily: Sure, go ahead.
Jim: Do you think rich people are much happier?
Lily: I doubt it. I don't think happiness and wealth are really related. I think if you don't have money you'd be unhappy.
but having money doesn't mean you'd be happy.
Jim: What do you mean?
Lily: Well, when you're rich, you can buy whatever you want. But it is difficult to trust other people; they might just want
your money. So it might be hard to make real friends. I imagine it is kind of lonely.
Jim: So you are saying that rich people are unhappy?
Lily: Not exactly. Compare the rich with the poor, and you will see completely. The rich are not just happy because they
have money. Poor people, on the other hand, are unhappy because they have to worry all the time about money for food and their
apartment. They might have a few more friends but with no money they have a hard life.
Jim: I got it. Money and happiness aren't really related.

1.“compare sth./sb. with sth./sb.” The police compared the suspect's
fingerprints with those found at the crime scene.(警方把嫌疑犯的指紋和犯罪現場上發現的指紋作了比較。)注意,“compare
sth./sb. to sth./sb.” Davies' style of writing has been compared to Dickens。
2.在“ you will see completely.”

1.A+be+倍數+形容詞比較級+than+B.例:
The Yangtze River is almost twice longer than the Pearl River.
The dictionary is exactly five times more expensive than that one.
2.A+be+倍數+as+形容詞原級+as+B.例:
This tree is three times as tall as that one.
His father is twice as old as he.
3.A+be+倍數+the+計量名詞+of+B.例:
The newly broadened square is four times the size of the previous one.
4.The+計量名詞+of+A+ be+倍數+that+of+B.
The size of the newly broadened square is four times that of the previous one.
