澳洲81歲爺爺獻血拯救240萬人 如今光榮'退休'

81-year-old Australian blood donor, James Harrison, has retiRed after saving the lives of more than 2.4 million babies by donating his blood over the past 60 years.

81歲澳大利亞獻血者詹姆森·哈里森從捐血“崗位”退休了。在過去的60年裏，哈里森獻血拯救了超過240萬名嬰兒。

Harrison's blood contains an extremely rare antibody in his plasma that is used to develop medicine to prevent newborns from dying from Rhesus disease.

哈里森的血漿中含有一種極爲稀有的抗體，這種抗體可用於製造預防新生兒溶血癥的藥物。

The medicine, anti-D, is given to pregnant mothers whose rhesus negative blood is at risk of attacking her baby's rhesus positive blood.

這種名爲anti-D的藥物適用於自身血型爲RhD陰性、與腹中胎兒RhD陽性血型相斥的孕婦。

Now passing the age-limit in Australia to continue giving blood, Harrison has made his 1,173rd and final donation.

由於已超過澳大利亞捐獻血漿的法定年齡，哈里森進行了他的第1173次，也是最後一次獻血。

He holds the Guinness World Record for the number of donations made, and the Australian Red Cross Blood Service said: "His kindness leaves a remarkable legacy."

In 1999, Mr Harrison received the Medal of the Order of Australia for his "incredible and ongoing support of the blood service and anti-D programme", the organisation stated.
