Fit as a fiddle的意思是 in very good health，譯爲：非常健康。這種說法大約出現在1616年，有一種猜想認爲這和年邁的街頭fiddler即“提琴手”有關。他們日復一日地在街頭演奏，非常消耗體力，爲確保演奏總是連綿不斷並且充滿激情，他們必須具備充沛的體力和旺盛的精力。按照這種說法，fit as a fiddle應該改爲fit as a fiddler才合適，但是至今還未見過這個用法。有趣的是，用fiddle代替fiddler的說法還不少，如：He is second fiddle. 它是二提琴手。
