周璇（1920 ~ 1957)Zhou Xuan, former name was Su Pu, was born on August 1st of 1920 in Changzhou，Jiangsu Province and died on 22 September 1957, when she was 39. She was an early Chinese film actress and a popular singer.
周璇，原名蘇璞，1920年8月1日出生於江蘇常州，1957年9月22日去世，終年39歲。她是中國早期電影著名女演員，著名歌唱家。Zhou Xuan was sold and separated from her natural parents at her early age and raised by adoptive parents, the Zhou's couple. Since 1935, she played a role in The Beautfs Favour by Tianyi Film Company. In 1936 she joined Yihua Film Company, Starring many films, such as Joyous Day (1936) and All Loves (1937). But it was jn Street Angel that she achieved stardom in 1937 in Star Film Company when director Yuan Muzhi cast her as one of the leads as successfully created the image, a singing girl who suffers all insult and hurt and still has a nice ideal. Street Angel was the masterpiece of her performance art.
童年被賣爲周家養女。1935年從影，在天一影片公司拍攝的影片《美人恩》中扮演角色。 1936年加人藝華影業公司，主演《喜臨門》（1936)、《滿園春色》（1937)等影片。但她真正獲得演員的角色是在1937年明星影片公司拍攝、袁牧之導演的《馬路天使》中扮演女主角小紅,她成功地塑造了在舊社會受盡侮辱和損害，但對前途仍抱有美好理想的歌女形象。《馬路天使》爲其表演藝術的代表作。
After the Incident of August Thirteen, she took part in the full-length drama, Guarding Lu Gou Bridge. Then she went to Philippine to propagandize the resistance against Japan and saving the nation with Shanghai Drama Art Association.
“八一三”事變後參加大型話 劇《保衛盧溝橋》的演出。後隨上海劇藝社赴菲律賓宣傳抗日救亡。
In 1938 she joined Shanghai Guohua Film Company and starRed nearly twenty films, like Meng Jiangnv (1939), Li Sanniang ( 1939) and Tale of the Western Chamber ( 1940) , etc. In 1943 she Starred The daughters of Fisherman (1943) and The Dream of Red Mansions ( 1944) in Chinese Film Joint Stock Ltd. After the Anti-Japanese War she went to Hong Kong and starred An All-consuming Love ( 1947 ) , Memories of the Southward (1947 ) and The Dark Secrets of the Qing Court (1948) ,etc.
1938年人上海國華影業公司，主演《孟姜女》（ 1939)、《李三娘》(1939)、《西廂記》（1940)等近二十部影片。1943年在中華電影聯合股份有限公司，主演《漁家女》（1943)、《紅樓夢》（1944)等影片。抗戰勝利後赴香港，相繼主演《長相思》（又名 《陌上花開》）（1947)、《憶江南》（1947)、《清宮祕史》（1948)等影片。Zhou Xuan made a total of over 40 films in her life and was the chief singer of over 100 film theme songs and interlude songs, which made people believe that she was an eternal screen idol. She could be considered as the earliest Chinese amphibious star, a brilliant star in the early entertainment field. Her masterpieces Street Angel and Memories of the Southward enjoyed a high prestige in the world, of which Street Angel had been awarded one of Chinese Excellent Films in 90 Years" and she herself was awarded the “Centennial Award” in Chinese film.
周璇一生共出演了40多部影片，並主唱過電影主題曲和插曲100多首，成爲人們心中永遠的銀幕偶像，可以算是中國最早的兩棲明星，成爲早期娛樂界的一顆耀眼之星。她的代表作《馬路天使》、《憶江南》等片更是享譽海內外。其中《馬路天使》在20世紀曾被評 爲“中國電影90年優秀影片”之一，周璇本人則榮獲中國電影“世紀獎”。
