Embroidery is a kind of traditional Chinese handicraft art,which is divided into theSuzhou，Sichuan，Guangdong and Hunan schools. Suzhou embroidery is celebrated for itssophisticated stitching,vivid pictures,beautiful patterns and elegant colors. HumanEmbroidery emphasizes vivid patterns. Guangdong and Sichuan embroideries feature popularmotifs, such as a peacock spreading its tail, a magpie on the branch of a plum tree, pines andcranes as symbols of long life,two dragons playing with a ball，and a phoenix and peony. Theembroidery items have varied themes ： Some are romantic and exaggerative,others reflectthe reality,or are vivid and true to life. Both are of practical and ornamental uses.

The Song Dynasty saw a peak of development of embroidery in both quantity and oidery developed into an art by combining calligraphy and painting. Newtools and skillswere invented. The Wenxiu Department was in charge of embroidery in the Song ng the reign of Emperor Hui Zong，they divided embroidery into four categories：mountains and waters,pavilions,people,and flower and birds. During this period,the art ofembroidery came to its zenith and reputed workers popped up. Even intellects joined thisactivity,and embroidery was divided into two functions：art for daily use and art for art’s sake.

The Yue Embroidery was fully developed in Tang Dynasty. The Yue Embroidery is rich andcomplicated in design with bright colors and strong decorative effects. The embroidery ischaracteristic of smooth and even. Though a wide range of designs,the most common oneson the Yue Embroidery are birds worshipping the Sun ,the dragons and the phoenixes. The YueEmbroidery includes the Guang and Chao branches,which are also typical of their own stitchingstyles.

粵繡在唐朝得到了充分發展。粵繡具有豐富而複雜的設計，鮮豔的色彩和強烈的裝飾效果。刺繡具有光滑，均勻的特點。雖然衆多設計中，在粵繡中最常見的是鳥崇拜太陽，飛龍和鳳凰。在粵繡中包括光和巢分支，這也是典型的自己拼接的款式。
